If you send McFarland down you have 6 relievers on the roster, so it would be 7 arms, not 8. As tight as games are between the O's and the Red Sox, I could see needing two fresh arms for Friday if we only have six on the roster. I'd rather have two lefties, other than Britton, in the pen for these games.

You couldn't send Cabral down on, replace him with Wilson, and then send Wilson down and replace him with Gamboa during that five game stretch if necessary?

You want Gamboa up here to face the Yankees. This is kind of an important series coming up. The Yankees have a bunch of left-handed batters, including Ellsbury and Gardner. I want the lefties available.

Roch while not always right, is usually pretty good at this.

He predicted Cabral or TJ both have options and can pass without waivers.

Personally, I hate that the team is playing a man down because of the 8 game suspension. Not even getting to the fact, that the 8 games was too much for a reliever.

Should have been, "You want Gamboa up here to face the Yankees?"

Do you consider TJ Mac a lefty with good splits against lefties?

What position player are you dumping?

Bring up McCoy instead of Gamboa and put Schoop on the 60-day.

I'd release Lough and sign him to a minor league contract with the understanding that he will be brought up after Matusz's suspension is over. If someone else claims him on release waivers and he chooses to sign with them, bring up Borbon on Sunday. It's not that different from Pearce's deal last season, when they DFA'd him at first and then released him. The Blue Jays claimed him on release waivers, but he turned down their offer and re-signed with the O's. If Jones goes down before Sunday, deal with it until the end of the game and then bring up Borbon.

TJ is having an up and down season so far. If he has a good day, he'll be fine. If not, c'est la vie. But we do know that he is capable of having a good game. He's already faced the Yankees once this season and went 3 innings without giving up a run.

Releasing Lough and waiting for waivers is a 10 day process, right?

It is really getting tiring to see the roster moves on an almost daily basis. The DL assignments are somewhat dubious at best. The roller coaster these 23-25 spots on the roster has to be difficult for these players and for developing players in particular I believe the ML roster should be set at 27 or 28, a team can dress any 25 on a given night. If you lose 2 players from the 28 for legit DL reasons, you can pull up 2 more. The game would be better for PH and late inning strategy and it wouldn't be costly to the team. Most of these guys are making minimum anyways. Likewise, in September, bring up what they want, but they should be allowed to dress only a certain number like 28.

Wrong. If you go to the O's website and hover over "Roster," than click on "Transactions," you can see exactly how long the process took for Pearce last season.

I dont think there has been 1 DL move this season that you can come close to questioning.

I do agree about changing the roster to 28, been an advocate of that for several years.

Garcia's is a tad questionable IMO. Other than that, I agree with you.

I hope Young goes, but I'd be surprised.

Both Snider and Lough are better (if maybe not much better) than what they've shown. They're also under control next year. Young is not, and carrying both Reimold and Young is redundant.

They made the right choice with de Aza. Hopefully they make the right choice here.

From MLBTR last year:

Connolly explains the processes that led the Orioles to re-sign Pearce. The Orioles did not replace Chris Davis on their active roster after Davis went on the disabled list last weekend, which meant they were not restricted by a league rule that would have prevented them from adding Pearce to the active roster so soon after releasing him. With Davis out, having Pearce back allows the Orioles to have an extra first baseman.

I don't recall, but wasn't there a corresponding injury (Davis) that allowed him to return within 10 days? If not, what would prevent a team to play the DFA game for roster flexibility on out of options guys? For example, Brad Brach, you pitched 3 innings last night and we can't use for two more days. We are waiving you, wink, wink, but don't go anywhere, you'll be back on day 3.

    • We have the best inside the Mayo family source there is.  @Roy Firestone have you heard anything about an imminent Coby Mayo promotion?
    • I don't really want to see an all in trade given the risk involved with picking up any pitcher in the game right now. I want to see if veteran players on a big contract are an option now with Rubenstein. A player like Max Scherzer should be on the table as a means to add another viable starting pitcher. I have to think under Angelos a player like Scherzer would be too expensive and a nonstarter. I'd rather pay $$$ for some high priced veterans over giving up top prospects for one pitcher that you pray doesn't get a sore elbow.
    • I’m not an actuary. That’s @Filmstudy realm. He’s a master at calculating odds. Here’s what I will say. I think (just my two cents) that Elias should be aiming to come away from the trade deadline with a starting pitcher who is a real difference maker. And hopefully a bullpen arm or two that have power/strikeout stuff (unlike all of our relievers currently not named Kimbrel). Elias should be trying to increase our odds as high as possible. I don’t know by what percent our odds will increase. But I do know that if we add a top of the rotation type pitcher to what we have, the odds of us likely being successful against ANY TEAM in the Fall will go up. This again is just my opinion (for whatever that is worth) but it sends the right message to the players that you are invested in truly trying to get this team over the line (World Series trophy). If the message that is sent to the players continues to be “one foot in and one foot out”. I’m not sure if that is a strong appeal to ultra competitors like Gunnar and Adley. People might say well who cares what the players think? But it is probably going to play a roll (what they think/how they feel) in whether or not they are willing to re-up here longterm. And I can’t envision a version of the Orioles that is as strong and as viable to maximizing the earnings/value of the franchise without them. I’ve said this before, but I attend a lot of games and I’m around town very often. I see all of the #2 and #35 shirts on people’s backs in the stadium and around the community. Lastly, I believe that it is very important that we do right for players like Stowers and Norby. I get and I’m sure they understand that there may not be a place for them on the Baltimore Orioles. But you can’t leave guys buried at AAA for years and never give them a chance, especially when we are talking about prime years. These guys only have so many years to make money by playing the game. If you can’t use them, send them elsewhere. I have never been a big believer that you get rewarded by treating people (and that is what all the players actually are) wrong.
    • Holliday isn’t being traded lol. And I highly doubt Mayo is traded. Basallo is expendable to me. We have Adley.
    • Seems logical with the lefties coming up. It's time. Get him a taste before the AS break, temporarily option someone, then make a deal at the deadline to jettison someone like Urias.
