Lots of good options. I don't want it to be TJ. He doesn't deserve to be here IMO. He wasn't pitching all the great in AAA before his recall and he hasn't pitched great here.

I like Steve Johnson (has opt-out coming up), Gamboa (my boy!!!), Chris JOnes (let's see what he has) and my favorite is Cesar Cabral because he has been filthy.

I doubt it will be Cesar, but he got my vote.

Givens has been REALLY good but he needs time in AAA first IMO. Still a tad on the wild side when I have seen him pitch (haven't looked at numbers, just games in person/MILB.tv).

I went with Steve Johnson. I thought mdbdotcom made a good point in another thread in regards to Johnson. With Matusz being gone for a few games in the near future, Steve can provide innings and has ML experience.

I voted with my heart and said Steve Johnson. I know he doesn't have the most electric stuff, but he did well for us in limited use in the majors before. He also makes the most of what he's got and pitches intelligently (thanks Dad). I'd like to see him get a chance at full health.

He has been real good this year. A call-up would be well-deserved and he does have an opt-out. Era under 2.5 I believe last I checked.

Whoever they call up will likely have to be sent back down soon. Doesn't make sense to add SJ if there isn't a permanent place. And you also want someone with options so you can shuttle them out while Matusz is suspended.

In a perfect world I agree. But having to play with a 24 man roster for awhile, we need someone with experience and someone that can go multiple innings. I think it will be Norris, but I'm hoping for Steve Johnson.

Norris out of the bullpen might make sense, sigh....

So would SJ and Gamboa though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a revolving door of relievers, especially with Matusz suspension. Probably see Drake or Roe cycled out for Norris and TJM/Wilson/Gamboa. Use someone up and call up another arm the next day.

Norris will be on the 25-man when his tee shirt is given away

Yeah. That's very possible.

While Norris make sense in one aspect.

he just threw 6 innings, so I doubt he would be available.

Johnson aint coming, unless its for the whole season.

Berry is on the 40 man, but having issues in AA and way down the list of ones you want to see come up.

Gamboa just threw 5 or 6 innings in relief of TJ, so pretty much count him out.

So right now, I am very confused about whom Buck is going to tap.

When did Bowden pitch? It could be someone they don't mind losing in waivers or to free agency in a few days.

    • None of them. Not a single one was good. And none were particularly good before they got here. IMO, it was not the right/proper approach to make a bunch of moves around the margins for this team (or even last year's team to be "honest"). We had real holes and needed real players that were actually good (i.e. like Tony's orginal example Erceg). Based on his last few seasons, it wasn't hard to predict that Kimbrel wouldn't be effective through the course of an entire season and into the post season. It wasn't hard to predict regression of Cano based on how his the last 3/4 months of his 23' went (adding that to that fact that he is a contact pitcher pitching in high levarage situations). It wasn't hard to predict that 22' was an outlier season for Perez and that largerly he is a mediocre reliever. And so on ... Obviously, there is no one single pitcher that can replace a Bautista (maybe Miller?). But Elias was very ineffective in building an effective bullpen for 2024. That's honest.
    • Wow! I guess it just seems that way.
    • Gunnar and Mullins at 1-2 in some order and Westburg batting cleanup? AS at 3, OHearn at 5, Cowser 6 and Adley 7?
    • That team was              2024 7th RS                           2nd 9 BA                              3 5 K’s                             8 2 SLG                          1 101 OPS+                    118   Imagine that team playing in this park now? I know how bad they looked yesterday. Not denying that.
    • We literally do not have any elite relievers. I trust Eflin more than anyone we have in the pen as long as he isn't struggling.
    • He is having a down second half so maybe 1/6th of his career. I do think this makes him harder to extend now. He will likely want to play better to get the best contract, but the closer he gets to free agency and if he bounces back, the number rises quickly.  For me the issue with Adley is on offense and a future in which he needs to DH or play first. Just not enough offensive capability at this point to justify that contract. I do love Adley and I also think he is hurt.
    • I feel like this lineup compares to 2016 in the sense that it's a home run or nothing. Otherwise, yes it's a different organization and we have a chance to be a playoff team for the better part of a decade.
