Bordick on Matusz

It's not just that he can't get RHB's at. We've seen him come in the game in key situations and walk lefties before. Bottom line....he can't be trusted in any type of crucial/pressure situation. No command of off-speed pitches and a 90 MPH fastball doesn't cut it.

Can we put Matusz (and O's fans) out of his misery and trade him, even for a bag of balls?

Would have been a great job to not let any runs. A good job if one scores. Two would be a failure . I can't say the word for letting all three in. He can't get RHB's out. He has things perfectly set up with 3 LHB's and walks the first one. As soon as he comes back we lose. Goodbye already!!!

Matusz had his very best stuff today and he was still solved. That's all you need to know.

With Snider, 2 weeks ago I advocated running him out there vs. all righties and letting the chips fall. Since he hasn't hit one ball well in that time, it's clear that wasn't the answer. He's lucky our minors are thin in the outfield, that's all I know.

It wouldn't bother me a bit if the O's could get them both gone.

First of all, I actually like Bordick, but this guy needs to think before he opens his mouth. The top of the ninth he's going on about how Matusz came in and "slammed the door keeping the Orioles in the game".

What are you talking about Mike? Matusz allowed all 3 inherited baserunners to score. He walked in the first one in and then allowed a bullet double off about a scrub of a RHB as you're gong to find in the majors. Slammed the door?

Yes, Matusz looked good with the K's, mostly against the LHB's but come on Bordick. Get it together man.

I said in the game thread... Bordick was kind of forced into that. MASN had the cool homer video montage of his good second inning all ready to go. I don't think for a second Bordie thought Matusz was good today.

Wright was out of gas with a pitch count around 100 on a very hot day. Buck should've pulled him before the bases got loaded, but he was trying to get him the win. Once Matusz went in the game, regrettably anyone could have predicted the outcome within a certain degree. By a certain degree, it was a question whether 2 or 3 runs would score or Matusz would give up a grand slam. I guess we're supposed to feel fortunate it wasn't the latter, not that it mattered. Nobody scored after the 5th.

I texted Weams the same thing at the game. Wright looked like burnt toast and then you bring in a guy who hasn't worked in eight days

As for Mr. "Beautiful " Bordick, he works and helps coach some of the Orioles Tough to criticize someone you work with. He also said Delmon Young was a great hitter. I don't listen to what he says because it is like a fluffanutter.

Buck's mistake was not bringing in Matusz (or Wilson...) after the FIRST walk. It was clear to all posters who know a lot more than me that Wright was already lost. He should have been replaced immediately. First walk.

I hear ya, but you couldn't bring in Matusz to face ARod when he's the go ahead run. Do you burn a right in the fifth for two batters and turn it over to Matusz? I don't think I would.

Shouldn't have a coach in the booth. Team mates and coaches have to be positive to help buffer guys against the inevitable failure that comes with the game and the endless criticism of fans and the press.

I guess his rustiness can be debated then, but he just isn't an effective pitcher anyway, particularly vs RHB. Zero chance I would have brought him in to face ARod despite Wright clearly being gassed. Matusz is that bad.

I doubt anyone was surprised by his results today. To the contrary, I'm stunned when he doesn't throw gas on the fire.
