Scherzer just lost his no hitter with one out in the bottom of the 8th on what gamecenter calls "an infield hit to the shorstop" by 37 year old catcher AJ Ellis.

Nats only lead 1-0 so now the game is on the line.

Nationals now trail going to the 9th inning.  Poor Scherzer.

And Dusty kept him in there at 110+ pitches after losing the no hitter.  Lind made an error, a hit by pitch loaded the bases, a wild pitch tied the game, and Stanton singled in a run to put Miami up 2-1.   (A runner from 2nd was thrown out at the plate to end the inning).

Lack of late game bullpen bites the Nats again.

(CUBS vs. CARDINALS, 7/22/17)

Adam Wainwright is the proverbial Sal Maglie to the Cubs' Don Larsen (Jon Lester.)

Lester is perfect through 5 innings, while Wainwright has countered with 5 shutout innings of his own.

Also ...... David Cone of the Red Sox vs. Mike Mussina of the Yankees, in September of 2001.

Cone matched Mussina with 8 shutout innings before the Yankees scored an unearned run in the 9th, while Mussina had a Perfect Game for 8.67 innings before Carl Everett broke it up with a pinch-hit single.
