With our remaining schedule we're going to end up with a top 10 pick. I heard this upcoming draft is going to be deep on college pitching. We could have a top 10 pick, plus comp picks for Chen and MW, and the comp bal B pick after the 2nd rd. Hoping we wont be getting a comp pick for Davis.

I am agnostic about Davis. I feel like there are as good or better guys than Chen that would allow us to keep the comp pick. Namely Price and Cueto (can Dodgers make Greinke a QO?) at the high end, Kazmir in the second tier. Kazmir is realistic in my opinion.

Kazmir should be a realistic goal.

Dodgers been no hit twice in 9 days. Imagine the outrage here if that had happened

They are still in 1st. They have flaws but don't see SF catching them. I take being no hit in I wind up in the postseason.

Honestly, I can't even bring myself to be upset about the offense this year, and here's why:

Delmon Young OPS

Career- .737

2015 Orioles- .628

Alejandro De Aza OPS

Career- .736

2015 Orioles- .636

Travis Snider OPS

Career- .710

2015 Orioles- .659

Steve Pearce OPS

Career- .757

2015 Orioles- .698

That's just an uncanny amount of underproduction. Hard to overcome that kind of thing, y'know?

It's really sad that a promising 2014 O's team is now headed to last place.

This team had so much going and only needed a couple of additions.

DD was awarded GM of the year but didn't show those talents during

2015.

Now we will see the exodus of some talented players, will we try to retain

them but not if history repeats itself.DD did nothing for this team to

win in 2015,blame it on PA if you want but I believe DD owns this.

To have players like Adam Jones still believing we can win this really

pulls at the heart. The team just lost direction and no one in the FO

helped to bring talent I mean talent into the team. The schedule

is tough and will take everyone to play to there potential.

Good luck O's.

You're right, it is uncanny. One might even conclude that DD had some reason to expect that some of that depth might work out. But the narrative that he was pining for Toronto in a tawdry, tabloidesque way is just so much more fun isn 't it? No messy human complexity to deal with.

Haha, yeah, that seems to be a prrretty popular interpretation of events, as is the "Cruz left, now we suck" version of things.

But when the 4 guys, all ostensibly decent ballplayers, meant to cover the COF spots(and assist at DH) all underperform their career average OPS by 50-100(or more) points, things are likely to get a bit messy. And the fact that the depth guys(Lough, Parmelee, etc) all fail to show up as well certainly didn't help matters.

The Baseball Gods are unfathomably cruel sometimes, I guess.

De Aza needed to be traded to give him a kick in the butt. He was trying to put up big numbers in his FA walk year. Go on fangraphs and look at his swing % from his time with us to with the Red Sox. He started being more patient and not swinging at so many pitches out of the zone. I think we cut bait with De Aza so soon is that because he was a headcase. You can deal with a headcase when you're winning and that player is performing, but when both stop he has to go.

Plus we were the great experiment of what happens when you take a bunch of guys in there walk years and put them on 1 team. We didn't have team AB's and it showed.

This losing is just showing how valuable Buck is to a team. Buck can squeeze wins out of teams, but we have to have a chance. The last two weeks as our chances have gotten slim the performance has declined. They might just not be buying his message. This team has the star talent in the pen, in the lineup and on defense. We just need to supplement that start talent with some MLB talent and we need a TOR SP for the rotation.

The Red Sox more than maybe any organization in baseball preach patience, high pitches seen and high OBP. You think that has something to do with his turn around? I don't like the O's hitting culture this year. It seems to spread from Davis, and Jones thru Schoop etc

When he fired Davey it basically set back the organization for 14 years. The decision to prevent DD from leaving has done the same. The organization is disrupted. In this case DD wanted to leave and nobody in their right mind wants to keep an employee that wants to leave - except our guy Pete.

Now we enter an offseason after a dismal season with a bunch of free agents and more holes than all of the miniature golf courses in OC. This offseason could resemble the Will Clark, Delino Deshields fiasco because that is how PA rolls. New ownership is our only hope.

    • It may be just me, but I don't think you have to go to the game threads to find funny. Hell, some of the OP's are funny but then that's just me and my sense of humor.
    • Was going to say this afternoon that I would try moving Gunnar back to the leadoff role, just to try to recapture a bit of that magic.  I don’t think there’s a ton of correlation here, but he was at a .942 OPS as a leadoff hitter and only .742 as a #3 hitter. It’s possible that even if it actually means nothing, Gunnar may perceive it as sort of a reset and take a little extra confidence and clearmindedness to the plate.  I think it’s worth a shot. The batting order position doesn’t matter much — unless the player himself happens to believe it matters a lot.
    • Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 65 | Run: 40 | Arm: 70 | Field: 45  "He moves well for his size, but the potential of him outgrowing third..." https://www.mlb.com/prospects/orioles/coby-mayo-691723 Hit: 45/55, Game Power: 50/60, Raw Power: 60/70, Run: 45/40, Defense: 40/45 "Listed at 6-5, 230 the concern remains whether he will eventually end up too big to play an effective 3B, but for now, he’s shown enough improvements that he can play 3B effectively if a team is going to live with a few more errors then some would like. In his limited play at first base, Mayo took well to the position and looks to be a legitimate option there, though he would waste his plus plus arm.  He’s an average to slightly below average runner so he’s not base clogger, but he will slow with age due to his size. He’s athletic enough and moves well once he get going." https://orioleshangout.com/2023/11/16/orioles-2023-3-prospect-coby-mayo-3b/ I don't think the athleticism is the question. He's a 40-45 runner. That is average to slightly below average. Is he faster or more nimble than Santander or O'Hearn? I don't know. Given the fact that 3B seems to have a very good young player as the incumbent and Mayo appears to have an arm that could be quite a weapon in the OF, can the O's live with a little less foot speed in RF? I think it's worth finding out if he can play there.
    • When your offense stinks and you can’t score runs, you do things that you might not do ordinarily.
    • Mountcastle had no feel for the outfield. He took terrible routes, showed no knack for playing the ball off the wall and didn’t know which base to throw the ball to. Acting like it was an athleticism thing is disingenuous.
    • We have plenty of guys on the injured list. I suppose for me it's a question of whether you want Bowman or Young eligible for the postseason
    • What does a first baseman have to do that Mayo does poorly? Stretch, catch, including managing awkward throws in the dirt, and what else exactly? Reflexes, throwing quick and accurate are skills for any position. What is unique to 1B that Mayo can’t do? And if he can’t play first, where the job is stand and catch, where CAN he play?
