He's a lot like Cruz. Only no real slump yet.

Surprised it didn't happen during the height of the steroid era.

Less movement of one tool sluggers back then. Power was king.

Want to hear a freaky stat that began long before the steroid era, but went right through the heart of it ???

From 1986-2000 ......... which includes the heart of the steroid era of inflated offenses ...... not one single World Series champion had a single player with 35 or more home runs in the regular season.

So from the 1986 Mets - the 2000 Yankees ...... and all of the other world champions in between ....... not one of them had a player with at least 35 HR's (in a single season.)

Also, if Mariano Rivera had not blown the save in Game Seven against the Diamondbacks in 2001, the streak would have extended a year longer (Tino Martinez led the 2001 Yankees with 34 home runs.)

Steve Balboni hit 36 HR's for the 1985 Kansas City Royals, and Luis Gonzalez hit 57 home runs for the 2001 DiamondBacks.

2001 D-BACKS:  llllllllllllllllllllllllll  http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ARI/2001.shtml

Here is my take so far. Trumbo is leading the Majors in homers. There are other teams who would pay huge amounts of money for this.

But not our cheap billionaire owner. He wants to have his money buried with him. I remember when he said he would do whatever it takes to bring the Orioles to the top. But it takes one thing for that....MONEY.

Weird timing for this post, after the O's raised their payroll to a new high this offseason, including spending $161 million for Chris Davis.

There's no reason to believe the Orioles don't have the funds to re-sign Mark Trumbo. The question is whether that's a wise move.

Regardless of how much the O's spent on anyone...we are 15th on payroll money for 2016. Take a guess where our division rivals, New York and Boston are....

You're implying that the Orioles could ever spend as much as New York and Boston? That's...incorrect.

Only because our billionaire owner is too cheap. He has the money. So yes they could spend as much money as New York and Boston...

This is ridiculous for several reasons. First, team owners don't spend their own money on payroll. Second, they are 12th in payroll right now at over 150 million, that can't be called cheap with the Baltimore market size. Third, Peter Angelos isn't even a billionaire.

Nice rant though, very original and still relevant.
