Offense not pitching will doom this team

The O's offense has come on pretty well lately. In August, the O's are 4th in the AL in runs/game, and 2nd in OPS. It's been a little bit of a feast or famine month. Here's a breakdown:

0 runs - 1

1 run - 2

2 runs - 4

3 runs - 4

4 runs - 1

5 runs - 2

6 runs - 0

7 runs - 1

8 runs - 3

9 runs - 1

10 runs - 2

13 runs - 1

The O's are 11-11 for the month, and in all but one of their losses, they scored 3 runs or less.

The pitching, on the other hand, looks like this:

0 runs - 0

1 run - 3

2 runs - 4

3 runs - 2

4 runs - 1

5 runs - 5

6 runs - 2

7 runs - 1

8 runs - 2

12 runs - 1

15 runs - 1

When I look back on the month so far, the losses that really hurt were the ones in Oakland: 3-2, 2-1, 1-0. By the same token, the O's have won some some poorly-pitched games: 10-8, 8-7, 9-6, 13-5, 7-5.

o

One run was good enough for the Orioles to get the W in this game.

They scored 6 runs in the previous game (also a W.)

This was my concern all year. Too many poor approaches and undisciplined at bats. Waiting for the HR will never be the answer.

If people are going to complain about "poor approaches and undisciplined at bats" then you have to realistically look at trading, not Machado or Britton, but Jones and Schoop. Jones and Schoop have a lot of trade value even though they swing at everything; and they are a hell of a lot easier to replace than Machado and Britton.

Machado would get you more than Jones and Schoop combined.

At this point, I'd listen to offers for anyone we have.

You are blowing up a team that if the season ended today would make the playoffs?

The patient, high OBP hitters aren't exactly available at the local Walmart or Target.

It doesn't matter if Machado would get you more than the two combined. A rebuild is a silly idea for this team. You want to improve the team not blow it apart. If you trade all the best players, then you might as well trade Bundy and Gausman too; but then you set the team back 5 years or more. But it makes sense to consider trading position players who are expensive and have flaws. Jones fits this category. Schoop doesn't fit the first part of this category because he's not expensive and he's under control for a number of years.
