Another thing, Bautista, unlike Big Papi is aging. He's hitting .228 with 18 HR and a 110 OPS+ this season. He might even retire if no one wants to give him the contract "that he deserves".

Giants and Royals got to the World Series as wildcard teams in the last two years. Get in and anything can happen. Offense has to wake up or the wildcard will slip away.

This is the conspiracy I and my tin-foil hat believe:

1) Ortiz has been caught

2) He said "*** it" and went all out on PEDs

3) He's having perhaps the greatest age 40 season of all time

4) We'll see how the Sawx do in the playoffs

5) The story about his bust will break shortly after the World Series is played.

If the press doesn't ask him about it, they have no spine whatsoever.

That's one of his secrets to extending his bullpen life. And so year after year we have a sub-par rotation and a top bullpen.

(well not all because of that but I'm making the point)

And that style wins plenty of games but only up to a point, but it doesn't necessarily win playoff type games or World Series. At some point, you have to stop saving guys and go for matchups in every key situation no matter what the effect on tomorrow and go for broke or you don't get the ring. And him not bringing Hart in had nothing to do with saving anything or anybody. It was just his instinct. And he was wrong. And it cost us this game.
