Notes from the pregame radio show:

-- Jon Schoop is AL Player of the Week

-- Chris Davis is out of the lineup due to illness, though Buck won't rule out that he could appear (Buck would never publicly rule that out)

-- Ben McDonald gone, Michaud rode the shutle back to Norfolk.   It's Angel/Hunter on the radio.   But we got Jim on TV so all is well!

    • Hearing that comparison to Arrieta definitely had me thinking.  Definitely see the similarities in stuff and how they attack hitters.  As far as demeanor, both are quiet - however Arrieta was an intense quiet and Bradish is more of a focused quiet - more relaxed.
    • The worst the O’s got to was -297.    I honestly don’t know what the A’s are trying to do.   Whatever it is, they’re doing it incompetently.  Billy Beane picked a good time to get out.
    • I don’t think we have any idea yet of what we have in McDermott. He had an excellent year, and had more success in AAA (2.49 ERA, 1.007 WHIP, 11.4 K/9, 4.3 BB/9) than he had in AA (3.66 ERA, 1.249 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 5.8 BB/9).   He’s certainly a very interesting prospect, and only the BB rate gives any cause for concern.   But I’m not counting on him for anything in 2024.   He’ll get a good look in spring training I’m sure.
    • Gunnar Henderson has also entered the chat....
    • Good time to bump this with Grayson done for the regular season. He started worse than I expected, but finished way better than I had hoped. Feels good to be wrong
    • I was at two of the 1997 playoff games: the ALDS clincher in Baltimore where Mussina out-dueled Randy Johnson and Davey famously played Jeff Reboulet instead of Robby Alomar and Jerome Walton over Raffy due to Johnson being essentially impossible for lefties to hit. That was great, we got scalped tickets way up in the top row of the upper deck behind the LF foul pole. Then a week later we went to the Virginia Tech-Boston College game (a 17-7 win in Blacksburg), got up Sunday morning and drove six hours to Cleveland. Also got scalped tickets. It appeared we were four of maybe a dozen people wearing O's stuff in the whole stadium. Because of that we got interviewed by Kit Hoover (now of Access Hollywood semi-fame), and of course fled the stadium in the aftermath of Sandy Alomar's winning hit off Benitez, driving home through the night. At least we had Monday off for Columbus Day.
    • Oops!   Brain freeze.  But it turns out I was right!    We are the next team to use the visiting clubhouse in Fenway Park.   The Red Sox open next season with a 9 game West Coast trip and their home opener is April 9 vs the Orioles. So yeah, that's what I meant all along!   😀 They just have a little longer to clean the place up before the Orioles get there.
