I would enjoy squeaking in and beating the Yankees in the play-in game.    That would be enough for me, this year.

I wonder who the starters would be if everyone was rested (unlikely on the Orioles side):

Gausman, I guess vs. Severino or Gray or Tanaka.

Of course, Ubaldo would be a key guy in the bullpen, based on his experience in play-in games.

End the Yankees season, sign me up.  I would enjoy ending on that note especially with the way this team has performed.  Just hope Buck remembers to use Britton.

Last night's win jumped us over Seattle and Tampa, and we are presently 4th in the race for the 2nd wild card:

LAA 61-58 ----

MIN 59-57 0.5

KCR 60-58 0.5

BAL 59-60 2.0

SEA 59-61 2.5

TBR 59-61 2.5

TEX 57-60 3.0

TOR 57-61 3.5

Tonight's game is pretty huge -- it would guarantee a series win, assure us of at least a .500 road trip, get us to .500 overall and give us a shot at a winning road trip.

They are throwing a journeyman, AAAA pitcher after purchasing his contract today.  Basically, a 31-year old career minor leaguer with 17 major league appearances.  Why do I dread this?  On paper, this is a very winnable game, but this team has been underwhelming when given the opportunity to step up.

And a rookie tomorrow. This team needs to bring its big boy AB's with them the next two nights. I know it's the road, but this is the worst SP that we've faced all year. Taking the next two then coming home for 12/15 would set us up for a nice run.

Let's start with today.    Andrew Albers has had a very good year with the Braves' AAA team (12-3, 2.61 ERA, 115 K's vs. 19 BB in 120 innings), before being traded to Seattle.   He's the kind of pitcher who often bamboozles us the first time we see him.   I'm taking nothing for granted about this game.

The way they have played on the road .500 would be fantastic. And hopefully set the stage for the long homestand where we can really make up some ground. Could easily be 2-3 games over .500 at end.

Seems like a realistic goal. I can support that. I want the next two but a split would do OK. Then we need to clean up some at home like we have all year. Here we go.

Andrew Albers also doesn't throw the ball very fast. We all know that the Orioles struggle with pitcher's like this. Tonight's game is absolutely huge like you said. Come on Orioles!

Another uninspiring performance by the offense against a junkballer journeyman. Seems to be the same tune year after year.

Want to see a team make the playoffs with a below .500 record. Probably won't happen because some of the second wild card teams play each other. Most likely it will be the team that gets on a roll in September for a week or two. Who will it be? Some of the teams still  in it traded away players and were sellers at the deadline. Twins.Jays and Rangers. This might be one of the crazier races.

Well that sealed a series loss. We can't win in day games and this continues a road trend of winning the first game then lose the remainder. We're looking at 3 games out after today. We need a miracle from Ubaldo and the offense today.

This team is the very definition of mediocre. They tease you with a big win where you think they might just run off 5-6 wins in row. Then, the offense goes flat and loses to a below average team with a below average pitcher. These Orioles are frustrating. And honestly even if we squeeze into the playoffs does anyone really think we'd be a threat to make any noise?

    • No one is trading anything close to that for Crochet. But I agree..spend money, not prospects.
    • That's some high standards.  Sinker ball types are always going to have higher FIPs and lower K rates.  The truth is, Quintana is probably out of our price range.  That price range is probably no more than the standard Lyles/Gibson/Kimbrel/Frazier price range until otherwise seen.   Back to Quintana, I think he's the type of guy that if healthy could be a real weapon for us with our home ballpark and a home playoff game if we ever get deep into a series.
    • That's really the role/opening for next year that we need.  A RHH OF that could play some CF preferably.  Although, I'd lean more to and offensive minded portion of that versus the ability to play CF.  LF is big though at home. I think it's a role that Elias fills through trade, waivers, or maybe even a competition of milb deal types.  Like a RH Sam Hilliard type.
    • Yeah, he would be good in the Austin Slater role if he was willing to accept it. Not sure that he would be quite as good defensively in CF, given that he has played fewer than 100 innings total in CF since 2021. I highly doubt that he is ready to accept a role as a platoon player though, given that he is not yet 30, and he was an above average starter by rWAR from 2021-23. I doubt he is tendered a contract, given his $6M 2024 salary. His best bet is probably to sign a one year deal with a team that doesn't hope to compete, to attempt to reestablish himself as an everyday player, while the team that signs him can hope to flip him at the trade deadline.
    • I agree. He’d be a great regular season fit in Cinncy’s ballpark. Maybe that confidence of knowing he can hit the ball out to LF at home covers up his other decencies.  As for Crochet… can’t we just resign Burnes?  Crochet would probably cost Holliday, Basallo, and Mayo. Didn’t the deadline teach us the cost of pitching? I’m for trading Mountcastle. I’d hope we can surround the young hitters with a Burnes led staff with adding a vet bat to the DH/1B mix. Other than that, I think we will roll with what we have. And we should.
    • Hays will want to start somewhere. He shouldn't start for us. We don't want him sitting on the bench looking dejected while Kjerstad and Cowser are mashing bombs onto Eutaw Street.
