It has to be close, he was still a full step and a half from the bag.

I think Rafael Furcal had an unassisted triple play that by the nature of it being unassisted, had the guy out by a lot.

Sharp groudner to Machado, steps on 3rd, throws a bullet to Schoop who throws to first for triple play, runner was out by a full step or 2.

The previous two triple plays in O's history were on infield fly non-calls. I can't remember the last ground ball triple play they've had.

I don't think Gary remembers how bizarre that Boston triple play was. It started with a miscommunication and a pop up that fell in between Hardy and whoever was in left at the time.

I recall one that Jeff Tackett hit into like in 92 or 93. Jon Miller went nuts

Trivia question:  How can a player get credited with an unassisted triple play without ever touching the ball?

Your simplest, most basic 5-4-3.   Hard grounder right to Manny and he was playing pretty close to the line.   Easily fielded , took two steps, stepped on the base, fired to Schoop, on to first.   Wasn't even close at first.

The Orioles had a triple play that was almost identical to the one in Boston, started by Melvin Mora against Cleveland. A pop-up, the ump didn't call the infield fly rule, and Mora knew what to do.
