Boras Speak

Darvish fell short of expectations with a $126MM guarantee, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports says Boras is attempting to convince front offices that Arrieta compares more favorably to David Price, Max Scherzer and Zack Greinke. The oft-vehement Boras apparently sees Darvish as an “analytics phenom”, but describes analytics as a “management excuse to keep salaries down.” He also says that Arrieta beats Darvish in something he calls “prestige” value. Heyman lists seven teams as potential landing spots for Arrieta, believing he’s most likely to land with the Nationals, Brewers or Phillies.

Baltimore Orioles

Wouldn’t that be a story? And yes, the Orioles have considered making a run at the player they drafted and developed. The remaining people there all like Arrieta very much, and that may include Peter Angelos, as well. And they all regret the deal that sent him to the Cubs.

They already have signed two free-agent pitchers, but they did it for $17 million guaranteed total (Andrew Cashner and their own Chris Tillman), and they have stepped out before (i.e. Chris Davis). Not the favorite, but not absolutely out of the question.

Odds: 20-1

Wow. I’m shocked we’re even in the consideration. With the inevitable loss of most of our core after this year, would anyone throw a 25 million dollar one year deal at Jake with incentives that could reach 30 just to make one last run at this?

Maybe it would be for more than 1 year?   We have a ton of money coming off the books after this season.   A rotation for 2019 of Arietta, Gausman, Bundy, Cashner, etc. would put us in a good position to compete next year despite the loss of Manny, Jones, Brach and Britton.

Maybe it's a good thing Boras became a sports agent. Could you imagine if he followed through with being a pharmacist and had his own shop. These flinstone chewables pack so much iron, all your arthritis will be cured instantaneously and even without any throwing experience, you will be ready to compete for gold as a javelin thrower in next week's world championships. Further along, those generic brand eye drops you've been eyeing; they're anything but generic, 80/80 vision.
