That's all well and good, but on the baseball field is not an appropriate time or place for that, nor is shrugging off your coach like he did, whether he's 4, 7 or whatever.  I'm not suggesting draconian discipline or anything crazy like that, but he shouldn't have been permitted to do what he did.  If I'm the coach, I'm "assisting" him to the plate and not letting him shrug me off, and then when off the field we're talking about why he can't do that going forward.

He's a four year old kid! He, along with half the other kids on the field, are probably in another world pretending they are a Transformer/Pokemon/Jedi Master. Relax. When I played little league, there was a kid on our team who used to pretend he was a flamingo the entire game.

The entire point of t-ball is for kids to get introduced to baseball and have fun. Why is that kid going to want to do anything with baseball if he has a crazy, cranky coach yelling at him?

I would have ordered my pitcher to throw at his head next at bat. Got to teach them kids to respect the game. Old school baby, old school.

Yeah, there is a kid on third. The little turd probably did that after a bases loaded walk.

The kid looks like he's like 4 years old.  He's probably imagining he's an Avenger or something like that.  When my younger son was 4 he and his buddy played soccer together and spent the whole time pretending they were Transformers.

You don’t need to yell at the kid, but saying something rather than letting him act out while everyone else is standing around would have been appropriate in my view.   It’s a bit harsh to call him “a little turd,” though.

That's fine - until you have a parent threaten suit because you touched their kid too roughly.  Don't roll your eyes - sadly, it really happens.  A good friend of mine had a parent threaten to sue him because he grabbed a girl's arm to get her back into a line during a drill.  He didn't do it overly hard, she was just acting up and not listening so he pulled her back into the line.  The girl of course told her parents that the coach was really mean and they alleged that he "abused" her.  The whole thing was ridiculous, but sadly that's the world we live in.

I've been coaching various sports with my kids for the past 7 years or so, and if I were in that spot I probably would have just picked the kid up, ran him home and tried to have fun with him with it.  I'm just saying, you gotta be really careful as a coach with how you treat kids these days.

Thank you.  I never said I was going to yell and scream at the kid, only that I would not tolerate that behavior.

That's pretty much what I meant when I said I would assist him home.  My point is that was a teachable moment, and to let the kid shrug off a coach and continue to ham it up and delay the game is an example of both bad coaching and bad parenting.

See, I know that kid is just a t-baller, but I'm sorry ........ as a coach, I'm not tolerating that. And if I was the parent, that kid would be yanked right off of the field.

That kid's behavior was not nearly as egregious and obnoxious as is bunting against the shift when your team is down by 5 runs.
