Battle for the Basement: Orioles (14-32)vs. White Sox (13-30)

Orioles: 14-32, 4.04 runs/game, 5.52 runs allowed/game.

White Sox: 13-30, 3.86 runs/game, 5.60 runs allowed/game.

It should be quite the Battle of the Basement.    Of course, Kansas City (14-32,  3.96 runs scored/game, 5.78 runs allowed/game) is also right in the mix!

Believe it or not, we arguably have the edge in all four pitching matchups:

Cashner (1-5, 4.83 ERA) vs. Santiago (0-1, 5.29)(8.31 as a starter)

Gausman (3-3, 3.88) vs. Shields (1-4, 4.88)

Cobb (1-5, 6.56) vs. Covey (0-1, 6.00)(has only made one start)

Bundy (2-6, 4.70) vs. Giolito (3-4, 6.42)

Should be quite the crapfest!

I believe the O's are the better team, but that 4-19 road record is tough to overlook!

I agree with that.  I think we should split this series.  I think 3/4 is possible, but they are terrible on the road, this is true.

The game I am most interested in is Gausman's start.   I want to see how he rebounds after being bombed in Boston.  I think we were all starting to believe that he was turning a corner.  Bouncing back and delivering a strong start is a big part of that.

I wonder what Bundy shows up.

This is one of those situations where I feel like we win either way.

If we win, I always support my team and enjoy wins, so go O's!

If we lose, we're closer to a top draft pick and more pressure on management to open up the trading post ASAP.

Truly a win-win scenario.

Shutting down the White Sox, what does that really prove? I would actually like to see Gausman shut down a good team.

Team ERA O's 5.09 (27th); Chicago 5.21 (29th)

Starters' ERA O's 5.63 (29th); Chicago 5.76 (30th)

Team OPS O's .696 (25th); Chicago .714 (19th)

Something's got to give, neither team can hit or pitch.

2 slugfests and 2 perfect games this series!

Well, it's a team he should shut down.  If he doesn't, then I am inclined to think that what we saw was a mirage.

But he did perform very well against Cleveland.

I had a busy weekend so I didn’t have a chance to comment in the Gausman thread, but this is exactly what I was thinking. More than that, I was beyond frustrated after thinking he’d turned that proverbial corner.

Maybe he’s stuck at the light.

Let’s see, I’ll take a stab:

Tonight: shut down by Santiago in an embarrassing defeat

Tomorrow: jump on Shields early, only to to slowly lose the lead and ultimately the game as the offense does its usual disappearing act after putting up a few early runs

Wednesday: lose a tight pitchers dual after being dominated by yet another no-name

Thursday: win the final game behind a strong outing from Bundy

Sound about right?
