Why should the players be in a hurry?    They can take their sweet time and let the teams trade for as much slot money as they’re allowed to get and then play one off against the other.    It’s in their interest to be patient.

I'm surprised more top international free agents don't do this.  If you're 16 years old, and a top 30 international free agent, what's the rush to sign right away.  I'm guessing that often there is an under the table payment to family and/or friends to get them to sign.  1 million is a ton of money to someone from a poor country (and most people in the US). It might be the only money these guys ever see if they don't make the majors.  If they can wait a month or two and get a 3 million signing bonus it makes sense.

If your 16 and never had a dime I think signing as quickly as possible is probably what most would do.  You can help your family as well.

So I heard today it's possible that whichever of the 3 isn't able to sign with Miami Now, will just wait until July when the money re-sets itself for every team.

Well that makes zero sense unless the Orioles aren't interested in bidding on any of them.  When every team's money re-sets there will also be a ton more players that are available and a lot of them will be better than they are.

I am talking about Gaston  and Mesa JR.  I am sure what you mean by "too".

No, you were putting down the players Miami traded because they were young, essentially saying their youth meant Miami didn't give up much.

And I pointed out that MesaJr and Gaston were young too.

"I am guessing you haven't a clue as to whom the Marlins have given up.  The last two guys traded where a 17 and 19 year old playing in the Domincan.  They gave up a guy who struggled in high A at age 22

In the biggest haul of money they traded a reliever who is up for arbitration next year whom they probably didn't want to pay anyway.  The guy was sub-replacement level this year.

Really if you are going to make a post like you just did you could spend the time to actually see what the Marlins traded. Otherwise you are just wasting everyone's time reading your post.

The poster said something about he didn't want the Orioles to give up all of AA to get these guys.  These guys haven't risen above Domincan Summer League yet.

The Orioles got the International money for Brach and we gave up 750k of it to get some 59 year old guy in rookie ball.

You don't need to move one of your top 30 prospects to get slot money.  Its not like the other teams are going to use the slots now anyway.

    • I think it's an easy call to keep all 3 right now.  Kremer is in the rotation somewhere, and both Povich and Rogers will have to fight for the 5th spot, or they will come up throughout the year.  The Orioles don't have a lot of LH SP depth, so I think they will want to keep both Povich and Rogers. That said, if the O's go out and sign 2 SP as rotation upgrades, Kremer is a good trade candidate.
    • 2 of the best teams in the league at big plays and 2 of the worst offenses at allowing big plays. Baker is cooking but is also turning it over a lot. They have a sneaky good run game and lots of guys who can hurt you in the pass game.    Not the best matchup for the Ravens but I think they find a way to win.
    • The Orioles are very likely to lose Burnes and certainly need to add a starter this offseason. The Orioles, whether fans want to acknowledge it or not, value Rogers and feel they can get something out of him. They also clearly value Kremer, as he has 90 starts the last 4 seasons and has basically pitched to the level of a #3 starter the last 3 seasons combined. Povich got 16 starts in 2024.  He ended the year very strong. The question for me is, do you keep all of these guys. I know we also have McDermott but I think his injury last year buys time for him to start more in the minors.  And we are unclear about Suarez. So, let’s just keep this discussion to the 3 I mentioned. Povich and Rogers can be in the minors and we can treat them as depth but do the Orioles do that? They clearly like Rogers and while Povich starting 16 was more out of necessity, he did show well at times. We know Eflin and GRod are in the rotation, assuming health. We know they need to add one guy but if you want to add 2, do you keep all of these guys or do you look to trade one of them? There are a lot of ways I would be happy with the Os going this offseason w/r/t pitching and trading (likely) Povich or Kremer is something that could come into play.    Would you rather look for upgrades on these guys and trade someone or just keep everyone because you need/want that depth? And would you be ok just adding one starter and having either Povich or Rogers in the rotation?
    • Kremer never had those kind of control issues and was two years younger when he arrived in the big leagues.  McDermott is 26 years old coming off a year in which he walked 5 per nine innings in the minors.  Unless he is going to magically improve his command dramatically in 2025, it's time to try him as a reliever.
    • Well then a lot of people aren't sensible then.  But I'm sure that's the point you were trying to make
