With Grenier promoted several weeks ago, Hall has just recently caught up to him in playing time at SS at Delmarva.   It’s interesting to compare their defensive numbers at Delmarva. at SS:

Right, but it's always more fun to repeatedly beat on a front office that isn't even employed by the franchise any more instead of ever focus on something good that happened.

One can knock the O’s for choosing Grenier at 37, but by the same token, Hall at 60 (in 2017) is really looking like a good pick in that spot.    There’s only two drafted players in the Sally League who have a higher OPS and are the same age or younger than Hall

He's looking like a bust at this point. 

He was a reach at 37th overall, most agreed at the time of the pick.  Even more frustrating is seeing that the 38th pick HS SS Xavier Edwards is hitting .338 with a 10 to 7 walk to strikeout ratio at the same level.

Edwards wasn't a reach at 38.  At least we hit on Hall the previous year, but the Grenier pick just seemed really bad from the start given his questionable hit tool and limited upside.

at SS:

Grenier 54 G, 474.1 Innings, 62 PO, 149 Asst., 9 errors, 28 DP, .959 Fldg %, 4.00 RF/9

Hall 55 G, 480.2 Innings, 49 PO, 122 Asst., 9 errors, 18 DP, .950 Fldg. %, 3.18 RF/9

at 2B: 

Grenier 26 G, 231 innings, 48 PO, 53 Asst, 2 errors, 10 DP, .981 Fldg %, 3.94 RF/9

Hall 39 G, 349 innings, 60 PO, 82 Asst., 2 errors, 18 DP, .987 Fldg %, 3.79 RF/9

Recognizing that range factor is heavily influenced by outside factors, a lot of those should wash out when comparing two players who played behind the same pitching staff in the same stadium in the same year.    So, it would seem from those numbers that Grenier has a bit more range than Hall, and is a bit more adept at turning the double play.

I’d be interested in any comments from Luke or others who’ve watched a lot of Delmarva baseball.   I know that early on, Luke had commented that Hall’s actions seemed more fluid and less mechanical than Grenier’s.

I hope it's Hall at SS and Grenier at 2B considering Grenier is quickly becoming an ORG guy.

Adam has sort of been our forgotten man this year. Put together a pretty good season numbers wise. 

Interested to hear how he has looked in the field and how much more the power will develop.

Side note-he’s been hit by a pitch 19 times this year, good for 3rd in the league and would be 4th in the MLB.

He got hit 11 times in 62 games last year.    Not afraid to get plunked, apparently.    

He’s had a very solid, consistent year.    I’d love it if he had just a bit more power, but overall, no complaints.

Yep. That's what he needs to become a highly ranked prospect. Rest of the profile looks good to me at least.

      We tried to get Cease from them at the deadline, and then in the offseason. Cease was much less complicated because he didn’t have innings issues and hadn’t been a reliever.  Now we have to make a trade with them with the complications of Crochet and expect not to trade one of Basallo, Mayo, and Holliday, plus.  Yeah, that ain’t happening. Stick to the rentals of Scherzer and Kikuchi. I know it’s taboo to say this, but once you get passed those two SP, who really is that much better than Suarez?  Suarez has only given up 3 HR all year and has a 2.50 ERA.

      Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?

      Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)!       I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.

      I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.

      I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.
