25 DSL Orioles Prospects to Watch

Cruz hit his 8th HR today which is impressive for an 18 year old, even if he is repeating. It’s very rare that the O’s have anyone hit that amount of HRs in the DSL. Big framed kid with room to grow. Listed at 6’4” 175lb.

Also don't forget about 2 other 17 year olds. The 6’ 240lb 1B James Rolle and the SS Placencia. Both have arguably the best offensive numbers on their respective teams. Hope they finish up strong and get moved to the GCL next year.

Only reason I didn’t mention Rolle is that he’s still well under 100 at bats.    He’s done very well since his arrival less than a month ago.

Placencia had a nice game today. Now hitting .383 and OPSing .926 - albeit SSS

2-3, 3 BBs, 4 R, 2 RBI and a SB.

The SP, recently turned 19 yo Joel Benitez, had an interesting line score.

3 IP, no hits or ER allowed nor any Ks, but 3 BBs and 3 unearned R. 7-2 GO/FO

Yorkislandy Alvarez went 2-4 today to raise his average to .264. He also stole his 19th base. He has 34 walks and only 16 strikeouts for an OBP of .387. Hasn't hit for any power yet, with his only extra base hits being 3 doubles, but with the strikeout-walk ratio, I am excited to see what he can do stateside against more age-appropriate competition.

Not on the original list, but discussed in this thread I believe, Josue Cruz, hit his 10th homerun today.  He has also struck out 90 times (over 40% of his ABs).

6'4'' Lefty, will play all of next season at age 19.   Didn't hit at all in the DSL last year.  Takes his fair share of walks as well.

.848 OPS ain't bad
