Ben Breazeale (sp?) the C a few years back, absolutely dominated Aberdeen and is no a non prospect.

Well Breazeale was a Senior sign out of Wake Forest. There was a lot more information about him upon drafting since he played in the ACC.

Although your point is well taken that it is tough to draw many conclusions about Welk until he moves up to Delmarva next year.

With Blast motion bat sensors you get bat speed, but the best you can get from Trackman is exit velocity which is somewhat representative of bat speed.

Right. My assumption is they're bootstrapping some of this stuff to look for potential. They know they're in low probability spaces already, so instead of using scouting eyes, they're just identifying guys that would otherwise not get a look. My absolute guess is that this Welk guy stands out considerably from his peers in Division III.

I'm with you Luke-OH, I'd love to know the model too, but didn't ask because I figured that was proprietary. My guess would be the same as LookingUp, who mentioned bat speed, which can be measured. I'm sure you know there are other aspects to a bat swing that can be measured too, such as launch angle and exit velocity, no matter what college division a player plays in. Maybe they also have charts for the ability to recognize pitches, foul off pitches, and take walks. It would be neat to have a better understanding of all that when it comes to scouting. But I'm sure some of this played into the two 17-year-old's we just traded for.

So far this looks like some nice work by scout Nathan Showalter. He's already successful for a 21st rounder and although it will be interesting to follow him as he moves up, Showlater was at least right in that he can definitely play in pro ball.

I’d like to see Welk get a look in Delmarva at some point for their postseason run. They are light on offense. Welk, AR, Stowers, and Daschbach all might be able to help out if performing.

I think there is a chance all those guys get promoted for the postseason. But Delmarva is 4th out of 14 teams in runs per game in the Sally league despite playing in one of the more pitcher friendly environments in the league, so I wouldn't say they are light on offense.
