Watching Chapman's sardonic little grin on the mound as Altuve rounded the bases.....:"Yes, that's right, you arrogant so and so...he beat you and now you will go down in Yankee lore as the guy who gave it up."

I don't think history is going to view him that poorly.  I think that if he had blown a lead it would be worse.

That was such a hugely intelligent at bat by Altuve in that most extreme of pressure situations.  He had seen Chapman fall in love a bit with the slider in the previous at bat to Springer, throwing it for strike but not throwing that 99 mph fastball for a strike...walking him.   And then he throws two fastballs out of the zone to Altuve...then strike one with the slider....and Altuve anticipating that Chapman is throwing the slider for a strike because he doesn't really want to go 3-1 on him there....sure enough, in the zone, a bit of a hanger of a slider....BOOM.   Brilliant at bat.

Probably not....although the only other time the Yankees in their history lost a postseason series on a walkout homer was 1960 on Maz's homer for the Pirates.

The Yankees failed to appear in a World Series during the 2010’s.   That’s their first decade without a WS appearance since the 1910’s.

They have won only one in the last 20 years. I suppose this must also be a negative record for them.

US population of their fanbase.

New York Yankees    23,789,450

Of course they should always be good. Mets at 7 million.

I do not believe or care about these polls. Almost all of these "fans" are bandwagoners who have never set foot on Yankee stadium. Although this phenomenon may be abating a bit now that baseball is only the third most popular sport in the US, going fast towards fourth behind hockey.

The Twins must watch these games in total shock thinking: other teams can actually beat New York?  How is this possible?  We've spent 20 years trying to solve this mystery.

I am in the Astros market. Minute Maid Park is about a 1 and half hour drive. I have to tell you, it's hard not to be impressed by them. They are becoming my second team.

Here's a link to this morning's column by the guy I think is New York newspapers' best baseball writer, Joel Sherman:

Quote

“It’s frustrating because the team was built to get the ball to the back end and we got it there and we didn’t get the job done,” Zack Britton said. “That was the message all year [get it to the big relievers].”

Well, Zach did his job.  Don't know why Aroldis is smiling
