You must be a good hitter to get shifted in a rec league game. Or was it a situational thing?

I think that is wishful thinking. I would not take it as a signal of anything.

They would certainly not announce it as a bon voyage. The fans are more likely to boo than cheer IMO.

Not even a rec league game.   A weekly pickup game that I organize in our neighborhood.  I’m a decent hitter, but nothing special. In my old age, I pull the ball less and hit to the opposite field more.    But I certainly can hit a hard ground ball to the left side of the infield at will.   Needless to say, it’s easier to do in slow pitch softball than it is when facing major league pitching.

If you can put your bat on a major league pitch you should be able to direct to the opposite field.  Major League pitching doesn’t break the laws of physics,  the problem is getting your bat on the ball.

So I read an article interviewing guys who hit into the shift the most and all said thing like other team want them to hit singles.   Takes 3 singles to score a run.  They want to hit doubles and home runs,
