How long before Elias promotes the young starters at AAA?  And how will they do once promoted?  I don't know.  Personally, I think it is much later than the end of your post indicates.  I think deep down you know that.  We are all rooting for the arms to flourish.  But your own posts undercuts your wild dreams even before your first paragraph ends.  It is the single most accurate line in your post and I quote it without any modification at all:

The lineup the O's could field looks pretty offensive.

Sad but true.  The old Freudian Slip.....

It was not Freudian.  It was intentional.

And who are the other 2-3 position player prospects for this year?

Austin Hayes and We..Ra... Yuu... that other guy.

I meant 3-4 overall.  So last year would have been Vlad JR, Tatis, and Robles.  That seems like a better than average class but maybe not.

I would only be willing to play those games in pretty extreme cases.  Mostly i don't think it's worth it.

Depends on the situation.     First, is the team reasonably expected to contend?    If so, there is significant potential harm to the team from leaving a player in the minors who is clearly ready to help the major league team.    That’s not really the case when a team is expected to lose 100 games with or without the player.    Second, how clear is it that the player is ready for the majors?    Third, are the things that the player still needs to work on the kinds of things that are developed better in the minors than the majors?   Fourth, how old is the player?    Fifth, are you already burning options on the player by sending him to the minors?

I’m sure there are other factors I didn’t list.

Full season of Hays CF

Full season of Alberto 2B

Full season of Santander RF

Full season on Mancini 1B

That is improvement at 4 of 8 defensive spots.  That should get the O's to average.

I don't think Alberto-Villar is any better Martin-Villar defensively, and we are likely losing Villar by the all star break, if not earlier.

I don't see Mancini as an upgrade over Davis.

Will be good to have some OF's who can catch the ball but I don't see that equating to average.

Sure, I was fine when they did it with Wieters for instance.  Maybe the top 3-4 position player prospects in a given season(if they won't sign a long term deal).

Top Catchers, Top Starting Pitchers. That's it for me.

Yeah it would have been, they would have garnered a bigger return in 2018. (not a fan of service time games regardless though)

They couldn't get an extra year out of Manny.

The Brewers non-tendered Schoop, I'm not at all sure an extra year would have improved the return.

Of course it would have.   You’d rather have potential control of a player for 2.3 years than 1.3, when you always have the option of cutting him loose at the end of any season with no penalty.    The fact that Schoop sucked for two months on the Brewers and they ended up cutting him doesn’t change that.

    • If you’d rather have Trumbo under any circumstances, well then. God only knows how many extra runs scored because he let a ball fall in front of him, but it was a lot. An out at the plate is only an out, and it may or may not come with RISP, but a missed catch in the OF gives the offense another chance, extends the inning, puts more pressure on the pitcher.  Mullins saved a lot of runs with his defense and speed even when he wasn’t hitting. im not talking about errors, nor am I talking about routine fly balls, but about the extra inches a good defender gets that make the difference between a catch and a non- catch, and that’s important. And no one knows before the game what will be required of the defender. nine guys come to the plate, and if one of them is in the lineup not for his offense, but for what he offers with the glove, that’s fine. The other eight should cover for him. Thats why Kevin Pillar had a successful career.
    • Not sure why you bothered to quote me. I was helping another poster figure out how not important a left fielder is when it comes to defense in the modern game. You don't start a left fielder for defense.
    • Were we on Sunday Night Baseball that Sunday 9/17?    My Google of Rosh Hashanah 2023 said it ended at sundown the Sunday. I'm not Jewish either but I am baseball, and in childhood the Sandy Koufax stories I remembered most were about Yom Kippur. The Google also reminded me Kremer's turn as Texas finished the sweep was just 2 days after October 7th. Let's get a sweep, guys.
    • I don’t care what Slater did before he came to us this season. Just like I didn’t care what Hicks did before he came to us last year.  Since we acquired Slater he has a .707 OPS vs LHP and Cowser has a .500 OPS vs LHP.  It’s a coin flip. If we stick to what we’ve done, then it will be Slater. He hasn’t not started versus a LH SP since we acquired him.  I’m good with him or Cowser. Mullins is a lock. If I had to bet I’d think the lineup will be, 1. Gunnar SS L 2. Westburg 2B R 3. Santa RF S 4. Mounty 1B R 5. Adley DH S 6. Slater LF R 7. Urias 3B R 8. Mullins CF L 9. McCann C R
    • So he pitched on it last season?
    • Without Looking - Do you know who was second in Innings Pitched?  Pretty incredible.
    • Looks like it began on Friday, Sep 15 and ended on Sunday, Sep 17.
