If they have a 60 game season 40 are going to be against the AL East?

I don't think I'm looking forward to that.

Shouldn’t make too much difference.   Last year we were .316 vs. the East, .349 against everyone else.   At those rates, difference between playing 67% of 60 games vs. the East, compared to the usual 47% of games, is less than half a win.    Either way, we can expect to be terrible.

I wasn't talking about W/L record.  I just don't want to constantly see the same teams.

Doesn’t this depend on what the guys who aren’t on the major league roster are doing?

Are guys like Zimmerman and Kremer developing at all if they aren’t getting real innings?

Wonder if the O's Taxi squad will play vs the Nats and Phillies since the travel time would be short.

‪Just thinking about how many times I’m going to hear the phrase “small sample size” from Baseball Internet over the next five months‬

Batters are going to need something like 186 PAs to qualify for the batting title.  That's less than two months of regular playing time.

Richard Hidalgo once had a month where he OPS'd 1.486 (.477/.532/.953).  Last March/April Cody Bellinger hit .431/.508/.890.  Todd Helton had a month where he hit .476.  Wade Boggs hit .485 one month.  Juan Gonzales slugged .917 in July of '96.  Edgar once had a month with a .560 OBP.

How many average fans are going to look back at this season and say, look at So and So if they had just played a full season he would have hit 95 home runs or stolen 150 bases or broken the .400 average for a season!

Honestly, with the collective bargaining agreement going to most likely affect service time, and with no apparent solution for any kind of minor league games at this point, it doesn't make a lot of sense to not start the season with Mountcastle or Akin or maybe even Kremer and Zimmerman on the major league team.

At least they can get some development time in and maybe help them be ready to help the team earlier in the future when it might matter.

Now if they do come up with some kind of minor league games down in Florida/Arizona then maybe it makes more sense for them stay down there, but I'm thinking this unique situation may actually help some of our closer prospects see big league time this year.

Far fewer than would have 20, 30, 40 years ago.

This is the level of player it will be interesting to watch vs. the veteran lefties of the world, in the presumed absence of minor league baseball.  It could be worth letting MLB hitters light them up to get the game situation reps.

    • I have two tickets to Game 1 of the WC which I cannot use due to work travel.  Section 352, row 4, seats 9 & 10.  Asking $70 total for the two.  Paid $205 to the Orioles as a season plan member.   PM me if interested.  Paypal preferred.
    • Can't make game 1. I'll be at game 2...last time I was at a playoff game at Camden, we beat Scherzer and the Tigers.
    • He should be taking fly balls all winter.
    • That was a lot of fun. Felt like there are certain elite seasons that had to be part of the team, and then tried to build from there.  Outfield depth is a little shaky, as is the rotation — though the latter is probably mostly unavoidable. The lineup would rake and the bullpen would shove, so pretty happy with this combination.   C 2022 Adley Rutschman (5.4 rWAR) 1B: 1998 Rafael Palmeiro (6.3) 2B: 2005 Brian Roberts (7.3) 3B: 2015 Manny Machado (7.5) SS: 2024 Gunnar Henderson (8.9) LF: 1999 Brady Anderson (5.9) CF: 2021 Cedric Mullins (5.9) RF: 2008 Nick Markakis (7.4) DH: 2013 Chris Davis (7.1) Bench: 2003 Melvin Mora (4.7) Bench: 2006 Miguel Tejada (4.5) Bench: 2011 Matt Wieters (5.2) Bench: 2001 Jeff Conine (2.9)   SP: 2000 Mike Mussina (5.7) SP: 2007 Erik Bedard (5.7) SP: 2019 John Means (4.4) SP: 2002 Rodrigo Lopez (3.7) SP: 2010 Jeremy Guthrie (4.5) RP: 2016 Zach Britton (4.1) RP: 2023 Felix Bautista (3.0) RP: 2004 B.J. • Gray started off well  but then ran out of steam a bit. He's not getting any younger. I was interested in him last year but I think the Cardinals overpaid and his contract only gets worse.
    • A bit. Nothing life changing, but the format seems…Cleaner.
