I'm Ready for Mountcastle and Diaz: Mountcastle Up, Diaz Still Waiting

It makes sense to trade him..provided that you get back a young, cost controlled player.

I see no evidence that Elias is willing to trade a player with zero service time and a high end bat for another player that has already started his service clock.  And, you rarely see prospect for prospect trades.  So, I just don't see it.  Besides that, "I'm feeling a Mountcastle trade" is meaningless.  Based on what?

Sure but he’s can’t field and we have several guys just like him.

Im not say I necessarily want to trade him but I do think it’s a good idea.

Look, there is no doubt that decisions have to be made.  Some of these guys are going to have to be dealt.  We just don’t have room for several 1st/DH type players.

So get rid of the bad ones, not the best hitting prospect in our system.

Everyone always has too many 1B/DHes.  That's where everyone ends up who can't field.  I bet you could look back at every Oriole team in history and almost all of them had seven guys who could have played first if they had to, or LF in a Mancini kind of way.

I don't think you trade Mountcastle.  If you want to clear the logjam at first there are a lot of other ways to do it.

What are you going to get for him?

I'm guessing you won't get equal value.

But why would you trade Mountcastle when you can just cut Smith Jr and bench Davis and eventually cut him?  Nunez has taken over 1B so Mountcastle can get his ABs at DH and LF.
