I like this scrappy team of "who the hell is that". I'm living in the Philly market so my ability to follow everyday is very low as I'm bombarded with Phillies talk (BTW, they are NOT happy with their team). 

So with how fun and scrappy they are to watch. Is this a sign that our manager and GM know what they are really doing?

He was most definitely not fun to watch. He was frustrating. on he all- frustrating team, he would be my starting second baseman.

For all his flaws, Villar had a 4 WAR season for us and we got him for practically nothing. I don't get the vitriol. All-frustrating for me would be a guy like Alan Wiggins who was super talented but went from 4 WAR to 0 WAR and had issues off the field as well as on the field. I mean...

The newest hitting instruction is no longer to work for a count or a walk but to aggressively swing at pitches that are is a position to do damage by the particular batter regardless of strike zone. They have diagnostics on what locations contain pitches in and out of the strike zone that can be hit hard. 

As a non-hitting instructor, I can't say if this is a fad or a new reality.

I do like the idea of jumping on the 0-0 (the Delmon Young special) but not sure about going out of the zone. Interesting. 

Alberto has definitely been doing his share to bump up our 0-0 and overall swing rates and it's certainly working for him.

It seems like a few of our guys can hit balls just out of the zone ("that wasn't even a strike!"), and so if they can hit those balls, let it rip!

And that would include not swinging at strikes if they are not in your "damage zone".

Many things we learned in the earlier years of analytic hitting analysis was that a walk is not as good as a hit.  And a bunt is not a thing. And stolen bases mean very little if anything.
