Terrible call by the home plate umpire. Failing to ask the first/third base umpire on check swings is a real pet peeve of mine.

I agree. The ump has been decent. I bet the umps are hearing more of the chirping in all their colorful glory. Well, that check swing was sketchy

I hate a robot umpire calling balls and strikes, but that is de facto what we have now.
We know whether every single ball or strike call is correct, so when somebody yells and screams it is no longer an opinion, he can say, “you are wrong and here’s proof.”

Therefore, I sadly agree that it is time to just use electronic umps for ball/strike calls.
