There is plenty context there.  
 

1) SSS that doesn’t mean anything

2) Highest level he ever played against

3) Sub 600 OPS

No other context is needed.  The only other variables that would be brought into this are excuses.

I think there are two excuses, or flat out reasons, that are just as likely as any others.

1. People go through slumps. It happens all the time. Timing gets off. The feel goes away. Happens to the best of them.

2. Maybe he was given a tweak from one of our coaches/hitting systems and he tried to implement it. That could definitely be a situation where you take a step backward before taking two steps forward.

Either way, they're perfectly fine explanations that have nothing to do with his high ceiling talent and probabilities of getting close to it.

I disagree. Also, he had Mono.

The mono is not an excuse, but a fact.  How much it affected him, I do not know, but I do know that mono is a sneaky ailment which even people in the prime of their physical life sometimes take longer than one would expect to totally recover.  I hope it was something like that, rather than he was not ready for the competition he faced.  This franchise, God knows, needs a few breaks right now.
