I don't mind trading anyone in the right deal, but not if our primary motivation is to cut even more costs. Would really limit any value we get back. 

Either way, this offseason is telling me that the rebuild is longer, not shorter. If that's the case, maximize the value you can get on Mancini and Santander and move on. Will suck around here for a while longer though, IMO.

I think Elias tries put together a team that will win when Rutschman arrives in 2022.  No use to waste his years.

That's been my hope, but any time you trade existing for future, you're kicking the can down the road...unless you're a team that supplements through free agency/trades, which we haven't been recently.

Fair enough, I didn’t mean to misrepresent your position about what you’d trade him for, I was just reacting to the idea that the the Braves wouldn’t want to give up a top 10 prospect for him.

If Elias flips the switch in 2022, Cobb will be off the books.   Mancini probably traded by then.   Covid hopefully behind us which means fans in the stand and  more revenue to build with.   They will have the money getting a better quality FA  on short contracts until Grayson,  DL, Henderson and Westburg  arrive.

This could all be true. Or we could be sold. Or we could be going bare bones until we're sold. Or we could be going bare bones into the future.

The money being talked about with MASN is massive. I'm not sure the Angelos people were collecting it in their piggy banks. I have no faith in them to spend, at all. at any point.

If you are talking about the lawsuits yes, they were collecting it.  They haven't been allowed to spend the disputed money.

This is probably question for Frobby but didn't the Orioles put money in escrow prior to the court ruling?

As far as not  spending because of a possible sale........A winning team is worth more than a losing one.  As players like Rutschman, Rodriguez, DL  Hall, Henderson, Westburg, Kjerstad, Bauman, Lowther, Diaz graduate to the majors putting the FA around then on short term contracts to make the team win adds value.   The rebuild is in motion.   Seem logical to me that the O's ownership does what is necessary to make them win when at the right time.

I don't think the team is going to be sold.  I think they are latched onto this franchise like an engorged tick.

You beat me to it Corn.  The team is in a rebuild that is seemingly taking forever with no real signs of being ready anytime soon.  They have gotten rid of the pre and post game shows and the "fan favorites" (or not) that sat behind those desks.  And truth be told, by the time we are ready to compete, I'm not sure a 30 year old Mancini would really make much difference at that point. 

So yeah, IF the deal is right, you make it.  BUT...you don't just give him away.  That would be ludicrous, which means the O's will do it.

In any event, the Orioles are still trotting out Chris Davis every game, so they are giving us fans what we want.  (sarcasm alert).

      I'm not disregarding his past performance, but in general recent performance is more relevant if it's a decent sample size.  140 PAs is a pretty high number.  It's been pretty clear for awhile now that what he was once good at he's not good at right now.  I'd rather see Kjerstad bat against lefties than Slater at this point.

      Today was, thankfully, the last games vs the NL this year…barring a WS run of course. The Os finish 19-26 (that’s a sub 70 win% seasons) vs the NL and were outscored by 42 runs.     That means vs the AL he has outscored them by about 115 runs and are 24 games over 500.

      I disagree Mayo is one of the reasons the Orioles have not hit well.  Emmanuel Rivera, who has hit well with an .879 OPS since he joined the O's, has gotten the playing time over Mayo.

      I was sort taking that as a fait accompli. Signing expensive long-term free agent deals for one dimensional sluggers heading into their 30s definitely does not seem like Elias's style, especially when an extra high draft pick (and accompanying extra bonus pool money) is the reward for not doing so.

      Game 153, Sept. 19 Lots of notable defensive plays today.   Kjerstad made two excellent catches, one going back and towards the RCF alley that (per Kevin Brown) was a 50% probability catch, and another going back to the wall near the corner and making the catch at close to full speed.   Holliday snared a line drive at the top of his leap, and also made a nice backhand running catch of a soft fly into medium RF. Mullins made a diving catch in the 7th on a sinking liner that he got a great jump on.   In the 9th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Heliot hit a liner in the RCF gap that carried much further than it first appeared it would.   Mullins and Slater dove for it simultaneously and Slater actually gloved it for a second before it popped out while Slater landed on Mullins.  Luckily, the two base runners totally misread the play, and after Slater quickly scrambled to his feet and threw the ball in, the runner originally on 2B scored but the runner on 1st only advanced to 2B, and the batter had to stop at first.  The O’s were able to keep any further runs from scoring. One thing I’ve noticed about Manny Rivera is that he’s very slow charging bunts and slow rollers/choppers. He handled one bunt and one chopper in front of him today and both times the runner beat his throw rather easily, something that has happened a lot when Rivera has manned 3B.   I’m more than ready to have Urias -and/or Westburg back at the hot corner.

      Don’t know what happened to him on here but I did meet him and some others from The Sun forums at the park on Matt Wieters first game as an Oriole. If I recall correctly his name was Patrick.  He seemed like a good dude but he did have his face painted and was wearing those big hulk hands…which did strike me as a little odd for a grown man but to each his own.
