Now a good manager would have been paying attention, would have anticipated an early exit, and would get somebody up before necessary so as to avoid a bunch of guys on base. I was eating dinner so I missed it, so can somebody tell me whether our manager did this? Or is he just now getting somebody up, with two guys on base courtesy of walks?

Asking for a friend...

He doesn’t want over half the staff to have Tommy John surgery by Memorial Day.

Are you saying that a manager should ignore his starters pitch count or performance? I’m thinking not.
Sometimes a guy just doesn’t have it, and when you throw ~75 pitches in three innings, you don’t have it, and the manager needs to be prepared for that, he wasn’t yesterday and he’s not now.

Fifth game of a long season. You can't blow a BP out in the first month.

Well then why bother to pull him now? Concede the game, go out there and tell him he’s got to take his lumps.

No, that’s not logical.

Hyde was engaging in wishful thinking without being aware of his starters limits or trends, and he wasn’t prepared. That’s on him.

I really would like to know, though, exactly when did Hyde get someone up? Was it after one guy walked, two guys walked, or was it after the third guy walked?

You can’t manage aggressively early on in the year. Playoffs of course, late in year sure. Not now.

Most likely 1st walk as it takes usually two batters to get ready unless you really stall.
