Is it just me, or do his best games at the plate come in blowout wins?

Are numbers his being inflated by performances against bad pitchers that everybody is hitting?

Don’t know.  One of the homers was off a knuckleball.

Probably a lot of players have their best days in blowouts.   That’s why they’re blowouts.

Not everybody is hitting two home runs, one from each side of the plate, as well as another 105+ mph xbh regardless of who was pitching. I gotta say I'm sort of dumbfounded as to why people are so nitpicky about Adley's performance. AA is not a particularly easy place to hit and he's been pretty darn consistent except for one week which came directly after he traveled across the country to catch an all star game. I was surprised the O's had him catch the very first game after that but I suppose it tracks with how much they've challenged him this year. Most scouts seem to have a higher opinion of Adley after their looks this year which doesn't seem to track with how this board is discussing his season for whatever reason.

I think people are still feeling burned over Switch Hitting Jesus, or Mauer with Power. However you want to nickname Wieters. Logically it doesn’t make sense, but some folks are waiting for the other shoe to drop, just like when they realized Wieters wasn’t going to be a .900 OPS catcher.

Wieters bat always seemed slow, so it didn't take me long to come to the realization that he was never going to be a plus hitter, but a catcher who might hit a little better than a typical catcher while being a plus defender.

I don't think most people think he won't be very good. I just see a number like 70, comps to Guerrero and Tatis and Acuna, and don't see it.

Now if you, or fangraphs, is saying that it's total value, and that his defense and positional adjustments are a larger proportion of that value than it is for the other 3, I guess I can understand it a bit. However, when I think of those guys, I think primarily of guys who rake. I love the plate discipline and power, but I just don't think he'll rake like them. I sure hope he does, but I don't personally think he will.

Thats because AR was batting .269 in AA before his big game last night.

    • Holliday went 1 for 2 with 3 walks on Friday night. 2024: .444 OBP, .911 OPS MiLB Career: .447 OBP, .931 OPS His OBP is EXACTLY what this O's team needs, would fill a key offensive weakness at 2nd base, help grind opposing pitching, and magnify the power up and down the lineup.  It's all dependent on his ability to throw and play 2B at a passable level. If Holliday starts to hit at the ML level, the question of who bats leadoff is over for the foreseeable future and we can go back to complaining about 1 slumping hitter or backup catcher at the bottom of the lineup.
    • This. We literally have no lineup holes right now, and Mayo, Norby, Jax lurk. Any trade discussion should center around the four most essential and crucial elements to O's success for the balance of the regular season and playoffs: 1. pitching 2. pitching 3. pitching 4. damn, forgot the 4th one. oh yeah, its pitching.
    • All I know is that Suárez has earned at least one more start, after today.
    • Scherzer still looks like a guy who would be a nice add to our rotation in the second half if the Rangers are sellers.
    • Not happening. I don’t disagree, but Kremer will be slotted in the rotation.
    • I wouldn’t either but the word here is that he’s going back to rotation . Suarez supposedly the one  to be moved to bullpen . I think they should wait and see if Irvin can rebound . If Irvin can’t match Suarez’s work, then he should be moved to bullpen
    • Yes that’s what I was asking. COC was completely off base in his comment. Judge is a great player, and apparently a nice guy. I have nothing against him, or most Yankees, for that matter, though Gil’s tats are off putting. I am expecting a bit of pro Yankee bias, but that’s ok. Also, home runs is a very glittery stat, and might sway some folks. But it should be Gunnar, at least based on the first 81.
