On the simple end of things, changing Super Two arbitration and ending service-time manipulation will change when you see young potential stars on the field (hopefully sooner) and how good your team will be. One step deeper than that, the expected addition of trading draft picks, the addition of an international draft and the trading of picks in that new draft could completely change team-building strategies for years to come while solving some of the competitive-balance issues that have plagued the sport.

Sounds pretty speculative to me.   Kiley McDaniel, speaking at an ESPN Roundtable, makes an offhand remark about the “expected” trading of draft picks, and now we assume it will happen?   We’ll see.

I’m probably OK with the idea, but I do wonder if the revenue/payroll disparities between the teams would cause teams to package picks with bad contracts and create new advantages for the rich teams.

Think we could traded Davis bundled with the 1-2 pick in the last draft?

Interesting question.    Fangraphs has taken a stab at valuing different levels of prospects:

65 B = $62 mm

65 P = $64 mm

60 B = $55 mm

60 P = $60 mm

55 B = $46 mm

55 P = $34 mm

Rutschman was given a 65 grade, Witt and Torkelson 60, Austin Martin 55.   So, figure a 1:2 pick is worth around $60 mm, less the $8 signing bonus.   Taking on the last three years of Davis would have require eating $69 mm.   So, probably not worth it to take on the Davis contract in exchange for the 1:2 pick.    But the Yankees might feel differently.
