If you have a catcher that doesn't bother to get down and smother balls in the dirt and instead tries to backhand them what adjective would you use to describe their play? Also I think catcher ER

Last time I checked he was last in the league in pitch framing.  He has allowed a ton of Wild pitches and he's at 9% CS.

Sisco has an option.

How is Cumberland's glove work/throwing out runners? I saw him a bit in Bowie but not enough to remember much obviously. How does he project? Regardless, I would love to see someone replace Sisco.

I think Sisco could be a pretty good hitter with regular playing time. He hit well in the minors but he's one of these guys who like to look over a lot of pitches. Those guys tend not to do well coming off the bench every third or fourth day. You don't hit because you're not playing regularly. You're not playing regularly because you don't hit. Catch-22.

Severino is so lazy behind the plate.  He is my least favorite Oriole to watch just because of his lack of effort.  Last nights game was a good example as we had 3 wild pitches in one inning yet with some effort you would hope a couple of those could of been prevented.  

I would be happy to bring one of these guys up and split 50-50 PT with Sisco just to see who the real backup catcher could be once AR is ready to take over.

His level of effort doesn't seem to bother Hyde.

I don’t agree with the general consensus on this thread. I think Pedro is a much better all-around catcher than Cisco. Calling him “lazy” bothers me & seems bizarre at best. Both have flaws of course. Pedro would be a terrific backup for any mlb club. 
 

I know catcher ERA is quite controversial but curious if you take Means out, what they look like, my guess is Pedro is much better.

Also I think catcher ERA is worthless and if you have to remove a pitcher from your comparison it's doubly worthless.

Severino seems to me to be a guy that could be a great leader to a team that was good.  He shows fire at times but gets very lackluster when things are not going the team or his way.  Machado did same type thing were he didn’t give full effort on the bad teams.

      Friedman and Dombrowski set a high bar, and the Astros are post peak.    Atlanta probably doesn't want to hear much about the Orioles misfortune. The Orioles level of play has been in the toilet half a season but I still think the good version of themselves is the AL's best positioned team to outplay the NL's best even this year.     We'll see if Soto and Judge are more than a 1-year thing, but even so that club has vulnerabilities.

      I agree it's unlikely but not completely far fetched. I don't think he is a lock to get more than $20M in AAV, so he could decide to take it and then hit FA if he has a good or even better year. His talent level is in a similar range as the players who have accepted: Joc Pederson, Jose Abreu, Wieters etc.

      Sort of a funny game to have come directly after a discussion of the merits of bunting with 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Glad Bob Melvin and I don’t see eye to eye on that issue…didn’t work out in his favor today.

      Yeah, I don't think the Orioles' struggles against NL teams is very meaningful, but I do think the NL is stronger this year.  All the NL division leaders have looked formidable and steady throughout the season.  But also the Padres and Mets have kicked their seasons into another gear and have really impressed over the past couple of months.  Compare them to the Wild Card teams in the AL, and they just appear more formidable on paper.   Also the DBacks are pretty much outhitting everyone right now -- though that's been offset by their not so effective pitching.

      For sure he is out of consideration as the MVP favorite to copy Cal.  Of course,  Cal didn't have an Aaron Judge to compete with.  The runner-up in MVP voting in 1983 was a guy named Eddie Murray.  Eddie had more HR, more RBI, a higher slugging and OPS than Cal, but Cal had a higher WAR and batting average (.318 to .303).  I wonder if Eddie is bitter about losing the MVP to Cal?  A case could be made for either one.
