.289/.313/.525, 5 HR, 17 RBI.  That seems like a very Mountcastle-ish stat line.   Hopefully he’s over his early season slump even if his season totals aren’t in line just yet.

After a terrible start he has the BA back up to .254 and the OPS up to .729.

I know we're not supposed to care about BA anymore but that .250 number has always been a bit of a benchmark for me.  An outdated view, probably.

Excellent to see him hit the ball lately like we hoped/expected he could.

Kid's hot! Reminds me of sophomore Mancini and his struggles. Hope he can keep it rolling because this organization NEEDS his bat. Other than Adley, I can't really think of a more critical position player to this rebuild than Mountcastle. You can argue one of the young SS prospects, sure, but in terms of impact bats who are close to or at the ML level.

That seems over the top to me.   Because of his defensive limitations, Mountcastle will probably top out as a 3-4 win player in his best years.   Basically, a Mancini-level player if we’re lucky.   Nice to have, but if that’s the second most important component of your rebuild among the position players, that’s not a very strong rebuild IMO.

Eh, you're probably right. But considering Mancini probably won't be here much longer, replacing his production with a power bat at 1B seems pretty critical. Basically I'm just saying the O's have to hit on some of these farm bats, and hitting on Mountcastle feels like something that needs to happen if we want to reach the mythical Good Again status. Because I have far less faith in some of the other position prospects: Diaz is injured a lot and a strikeout machine, Hays can't stay on the field either, guys like Bannon and Jones don't feel like big impact bats. And then Gunnar and Westburg are a little farther out.

i was bowled over when he hit that homer against Shaw the other day.  Shaw's a helluva reliever and seems like a master craftsman.  He got ahead of Mountcastle, and I figured he was gonna easily strike him out and make Mountcastle look foolish.  But Ryan looked supremely confident up there - wasn't rattled at all, got a pitch to hit, and crushed it.  He's struck out a lot this year, but the kid obviously believes in himself, and has the talent.  As long as he keeps working and has a good attitude, he'll be successful.

Yep - there's no substitute for the arms in the Show even for if your hit tool is a high percentile even among MLB 24-year-olds.

While I see Rutschman/Rodriguez/Hall on a higher level of innate talent with some chance to hit the ground running, there's opportunity this summer for them to see what Vlad can do to their pitches, Gerrit's pitches can do to them, etc.    The 2028 Orioles probably have a better forecast than the 2022 Orioles, but I do expect the club to buy a free agent season here or there for current best players, and Means/Mullins/Mancini probably would like to not waste another near peak year.    Fair chance 2022 Adley is better than 2028 Adley straight up anyway.

His XWOBACON which basically means his production when he makes contact is now .415 vs .363 MLB avg and his XWOBA has climbed up to .298 vs .312 MLB avg. He's still hurt by 1% percentile chase rate a 7th percentile WHIFF rate. 

So the good news is he's at least hitting ball hard now when he does make contact.

      I don't really want to see an all in trade given the risk involved with picking up any pitcher in the game right now. I want to see if veteran players on a big contract are an option now with Rubenstein. A player like Max Scherzer should be on the table as a means to add another viable starting pitcher. I have to think under Angelos a player like Scherzer would be too expensive and a nonstarter. I'd rather pay $$$ for some high priced veterans over giving up top prospects for one pitcher that you pray doesn't get a sore elbow.

      I’m not an actuary. That’s @Filmstudy realm. He’s a master at calculating odds. Here’s what I will say. I think (just my two cents) that Elias should be aiming to come away from the trade deadline with a starting pitcher who is a real difference maker. And hopefully a bullpen arm or two that have power/strikeout stuff (unlike all of our relievers currently not named Kimbrel). Elias should be trying to increase our odds as high as possible. I don’t know by what percent our odds will increase. But I do know that if we add a top of the rotation type pitcher to what we have, the odds of us likely being successful against ANY TEAM in the Fall will go up. This again is just my opinion (for whatever that is worth) but it sends the right message to the players that you are invested in truly trying to get this team over the line (World Series trophy). If the message that is sent to the players continues to be “one foot in and one foot out”. I’m not sure if that is a strong appeal to ultra competitors like Gunnar and Adley. People might say well who cares what the players think? But it is probably going to play a roll (what they think/how they feel) in whether or not they are willing to re-up here longterm. And I can’t envision a version of the Orioles that is as strong and as viable to maximizing the earnings/value of the franchise without them. I’ve said this before, but I attend a lot of games and I’m around town very often. I see all of the #2 and #35 shirts on people’s backs in the stadium and around the community. Lastly, I believe that it is very important that we do right for players like Stowers and Norby. I get and I’m sure they understand that there may not be a place for them on the Baltimore Orioles. But you can’t leave guys buried at AAA for years and never give them a chance, especially when we are talking about prime years. These guys only have so many years to make money by playing the game. If you can’t use them, send them elsewhere. I have never been a big believer that you get rewarded by treating people (and that is what all the players actually are) wrong.

      Holliday isn’t being traded lol. And I highly doubt Mayo is traded. Basallo is expendable to me. We have Adley.

      Seems logical with the lefties coming up. It's time. Get him a taste before the AS break, temporarily option someone, then make a deal at the deadline to jettison someone like Urias.
