Did he just need to get out of Frederick?  He had been there since 2017. He’s been around forever, but he’s still only 24. 
 

The short answer is yes. He looks like a completely different guy. He's commanding two pitches (fastball 96-97, t98 and a 79-81 curveball) and can throw the hard change 89-91 decently armside and low. He's all around the plate right now and throws very little uncompetitive pitches. 

I've honestly never seen a guy change as much as he had since I wrote him off years ago due to command problems. It's actually shocking. He stays within his delivery now consistently and gets a lot of swing and miss on all three pitches.

He's a great little story and will get a big jump onto the prospect power rankings.

Certainly an encouraging report.

Always important to remember that not all prospects develop linearly.  Chris Tillman was the big lesson for that for me.  I had basically written him off and then he became the anchor of the rotation for several years.  If Peralta can become even a good bullpen arm that would be huge.

Weather permitting, I will be at the Baysox game tonight!  And it looks like Peralta will be the starter.    He is the 17th ranked O's prospect as per the Hangout rankings.

4 starts in Bowie so far this year.  24.2 IP,  32 K's, 2.55 ERA, and a 1.176 WHIP to this point.  Will report on what I see with him and whatever hitters I can.

Yeah, don’t think we’ll like that report on Peralta much.   But at least you got an Adley dinger!

What a game.  Lot of craziness.  Left after 10 pm after the 7th inning.  Lots of scoring and there was a super long delay from a fan getting hit with a foul ball and then carried out on a stretcher. 

Peralta:

Unfortunately i didnt locate the radar gun until after he was removed.  He struggled with control and the contact off of him was pretty loud.  Really disappointing.  Also, i saw him loosen his belt and act like he was going to take his pants off when the umps came to check him on his way out for foreign substances.....so i guess that is a world we live in now.

Rutschman:

Looked impressive.   Obviously the HR in the first was amazing.  He had another deep fly ball that almost went out....and he had a lined shot towards the 3-4 hole that i believe the 1b was able to stab.  Saw him throw out a runner too.

Welk and Stowers also presented themselves well.  Welk showed real patience at the plate.  Stowers made great contact.

Luis Perez let up most of the damage other than Peralta.  He looked good early but then in his 3rd inning of work i guess it was....the wheels came undone super fast.  Then his replacement came in and struck out the side.

All in all i had a really nice time and hope to go back again this year.  We will have to see.

Plus the lack of power. Can't be a poor defensive 3B and not hit for power.

Peralta has now had a couple of bad starts of late. I'm going to have go back and see if he's coming out of his delivery again or what because earlier in the season he was repeating nicely. wonder if something is bothering him? Also wonder if a move to the pen might be in his best interest.

Obviously, a lot of these pitchers won’t end up making it in any role, much less a starter.

However, the bullpen is extremely important, especially in today’s game and I would like to see the Os start to develop some power BP arms.

He throws mid 90's as a starter so he's probably high 90's if developed exclusively for the bullpen.   I think he would get claimed.       I believe he was Rule 5 eligible and even possibly a 6 year minor league FA last year.   I believe he can claim FA if the O's don't put him on the 40 man.

Thanks. My guess is the O's will want to add him then.

      If thats where he's at 1B or Dh there will be no extension. The bat woud have to be super special. and it's not. we already have like 3 of those Mounty, O'hearn and Mayo

      The on field product has the talent to win and bring out fans now.  I’m not saying not to spend more money.  Your first paragraph I agree with. The new owner assumes all the “debts” leftover. Ultimately it’s their responsibility to repair it.    They screwed up big time with their pricing. If this team rebounds and gets in the DS the excitement will pick up. Only the last week did they have any momentum after months of losing it.

      That’s a very good point, but then you have the question whether you would be willing to give up McDermott plus for erceg, and that’s an easy trade to make. Plus, the athletics need almost everything, they wouldn’t want Hays But we could’ve found something to satisfy them.

      IMO, this mindset ("new chapter") is part of the problem. We can't act like the past and the terrible relationship that the org had with it's customer base does not matter or have a carryover effect. Whether the org calls itself "new" or not IMO is irrelevant. The issue is whether or not it will operate in enough meaningful different ways. If the org wants more of it's market to be engaged it is going to have to raise the bar to championship expectations and invest more in the on-field product. That would be different from the past and would indeed reflect that something is "new".

      All of you guys talking about empty seats and an unengaged fanbase - did you not see the post showing over 41K in attendance, more than in MIL or HOU?  Are those fan bases also unengaged or disinterested? This is much ado about absolutely nothing.

      I think at this point its just semantics regarding what a successful deadline looked like.  Elias upgraded three positions - SP, 2 RP.  Could there have been bigger upgrades?  Sure, at a bigger cost.  I think it was sufficient.  What has killed the team is the hitting.  If this team had hit like its capable of, and Soto, Eflin, and Dominguez all pitched exactly as they have, we'd all be feeling a lot better about the team, and probably lauding Elias for those three pickups and what a great boost they were at the deadline.  But we aren't hitting - at all - and I don't know what he could have done at the deadline to fix that. Already agreed that the draft strategy must evolve. I don't agree it was a bad strategy to do what they did so far, but it does have to evolve, just as the organization as a whole has evolved.  And I think it will.

      I don't mean this as any kind of personal slight toward you. Please do not take this as such. But people/fans showed how they felt about this team who has been a loser for almost 4 months. And largely continued to hedge (beyond the Eflin addition) at the deadline. I bet you who did not have a bunch of empty seats for their playoff game yesterday .... San Diego. IMO it is because of the effort that they put in to continue to engage the fanbase. You can't sell people on the "homegrown" stars idea and no need to add a lot of outside talent. And then some of those "homegrown stars" who were so hyped flop. And then not extend the ones who turn into stars. That communicates a lack of investment by the org. Now when you add that up in the economy/2024 inflation and combine that with all of the other entertainment choices that people have in 2024; things like this will happen. Empty seats during a playoff game = an unengaged/unexcited fan base. The org has to own much of this.
