Gunnar's been OPSing over .800 in Aberdeen over the past couple weeks. I think he's adapting quite well, he's always maintained good plate discipline even when he's slumped. At both levels this season.

I don't want to add to the hype, but he's the one guy not named Rutschman that just excites me when he gets in the batters box. 

I've always said, special players do special things early. While he's got some miss still, he really hits the ball hard and that swing is explosive but under control. 

Right now, I think he has the second most upside in the system. The lack of a complete high school season in 2020 may have given the Orioles a real gift.

Great to hear.  How do you compare him to Henderson?

Right, but the O's knew about him so other teams must have known about him too.  Lucky pick?

Right now he shows me better plate discipline and less miss in the swing. He also hits the ball consistently harder than Henderson. Now Henderson is a little more athletic but Mayo is not slough although he does have a little bit of slow feet that could make him move from 3B at some point to either RF or 1B. It's too early for that right now though.

I have Mayo over Henderson by a small margin right now.

I don't think any team had a ton on him other than what his Perfect Game type metrics were after his Junior year and those few Senior year games he had before everything shut down. He was rising fast and I think the Orioles were able to find a price tag that made sense for both of them while other teams either didn't want to meet this price tag or thought he was better off going to college.  

I think people know me and I try make guys impress me regardless of their bonus or draft status. I typically give those things as part of the early equation until I can get some eyes ons and some professional stats (above FCL level), but Mayo just stands out to me.

It does have some resemblance. 

In Stanton first full minor league season at 18 years old he did the following in Low-A:

.293/.381/.611/.993, 39 HR, 58 BB, 153 Ks in 540 PAs

If you expand out Mayo's first season stats at 19 years old in Low-A to 540 PAs
.295/.411/.574/.985 30 HR, 74 BB, 133 K in 540 PAs

      There is an argument to be made that you bring in 2-3 new relievers and make the offense even better. Solve your weakness and improve upon your strength.  And just go with what you have at starter.    Playoffs are largely about scoring and your bullpen anymore.  You hope for 5, maybe 6 good innings out of your starter.  You need your starters to not lose you the game. forget the bigger name closer type guys.  Go after the guys like Nardi and Walker.  They won’t cost you any of your top guys. And make a play for Robert. An injury prone guy but a potential difference making talent when he’s healthy. Plus it gives us another righty and he can play CF at a high level. Maybe you just do something like that, get Mayo and Holliday up here and try to bludgeon teams.

      The long innings yesterday momentarily enabled him to regain "qualified" status with 70.1 innings in 70 team games. Mid-June Fangraphs has 74 arms keeping the pace.    Grayson lands: 3rd in PitchingBot estimated ERA 5th in Stuff+ 10th in Fastball velocity 27th in ERA 24th in K-bb 34th in fWAR Past 1 Calendar Year, he and Zack Wheeler have the same ERA.

      I agree with a lot of this. I think I also should’ve decided the offense of stats of the guys ahead of him. Because other than the big three, the rest of the stats really aren’t very impressive for the remaining outfielders in the American League. I just seems like this year, for whatever reason there is a ton of outfielders with great  offensive production.

      How many times has an Oriole rookie tried to establish himself while also dealing with being Mooooore than just a rookie. I think Cowser will be fine and I hope patience prevails. Stats aside, I see something. I mean in all his struggles - ups and downs - that "fun" personality prevails. Gotta root for that - right? MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

      He definitely overthrows at times.  To lefties, it’s normally the high and outside overthrow and to righties it’s normally the non competitive high fastball. But overall, he’s really pitching at a high level.    Part of the reason offense is down is because of arms like Rodriguez.
