I just checked. Ellis had been averaging 15 pitches per inning and used only nine pitches to get 2 outs in the 5th. Can someone who was watching explain why he was yanked?

It's not the three at bats today so much as the three months of at bats before today.  He hasn't hit at all in the majors but was hitting for average and power in his time in the minors. It's a while different ball game in the majors.
