Craig Biggio to retire

I think a player has a very different perspective than those of us looking at his numbers. I'd think a guy like Biggio, while knowing he isn't an All-Star any longer, probably feels like he's a hot streak away from being very good again.

Of course. Professional athletes have an amazing ability to rationalize and an amazing, if illogical, confidence in their own abilities. I've heard marginal 38-year-old utility players talk about how they'd be fine major league regulars if only they got consistent at bats. I've heard pitchers with 7.50 ERAs talk about how they were a couple bad pitches from having a really good year.

I'm sure Biggio is the same way. He probably thinks he's 98% as good as he used to be.
