What message is Elias sending the fans, the players and Hyde on this move? He’s clearly awful and recalling him is a disgraceful move. At what point will Elias (at a min) try to sign folks to have an unlaughable major league product?

That he wants another high draft pick.

So he can not take the bpa? Raise beer prices? Genius! I know, I know…he doesn’t raise beer prices:)

Another SP or two (Maybe both on mil deals) would have made a huge difference. Not asking for much…just makes you angry and feel disrespected. We are fine with the rebuild but you can do that by bringing in a veteran presence to improve the team.

Lakins was pretty respectable in 2019 and 2020.   And he was hurt for part of last year, so it’s reasonable to think that’s one reason he was bad in 2021 and could be better this year.   I’m not saying he’s a world beater but I’m not going to overreact to one crappy appearance.  He’ll get a little more rope with which to hang himself.

Lakins had an ERA of 6.43 with the Orioles last season and pitched with an ERA of 6.00 or higher at Norfolk the last two seasons.

How did he ever make the team this season?

Well ran organizations that want to win at the major league level make players force their way to the majors. They don't run a unicef competition to see what AAAA pitcher they can bring up to face the Yankees.

I know he was epically bad in AAA last year, but Uvila has looked kinda interesting so far. Mid 90's FB, effective changeup, sharp curve. Mechanically he's a total nightmare, like a combination of Sidd Finch and Nuke Laloosh. But I'd rather see him than Lakins, who we know can't pitch at this level. Uvila's delivery is weird enough that he might have some success. I just don't know how he ever throws strikes.

Seriously?, Lakins isn’t a bad reliever. At times last year he was good before the injury to his elbow. In his 3 years career he’s a 4.21 ERA reliever in 77 innings.

He clearly didn’t have it and I was surprised Hyde went longer than the minimum based on that. But, we won in 11 Friday night, only got 4 innings from the starter, lost a reliever in the rain delay.

It's real simple. Management does not care about winning at the major league level. Wins DO NOT MATTER! As long as development of the prospects happen, they are satisfied. Now, the question is how long can they do this without losing enough of the fan base to get them back once the prospects are "up"?

I’d have rather seen Kevin Smith give up the runs. At least then we could chalk it up to a learning experience for him and still have hope for the next outing. Lakins is grade A terrible and we all knew it before he was even put on the roster.
