Fangraphs WAR for catchers includes framing.

BBref does not.

This is more about how Fangraphs sees Rodriguez than it is about Rutschman.  Bb-ref has Rodriguez at 4.1 rWAR, but Fangraphs has him at only 3.0 fWAR.  Rutschman is at 3.4 rWAR (including last night), 3.0 fWAR (excluding last night, site hasn’t updated yet).

Rodriguez' lead looked unsurmountable.  If Adley continues to improve his OPS with gold glove level catching, Adley winning ROY is very doable.

Unfortunately the Orioles wouldn’t get the supplemental pick because he wasn’t up at the beginning of the year.  It also pushes Adley’s service time up, but the dude deserves it.

Adley is already better than Weiters ever was.  Weiters was never close to this good of a hitter. The only thing he had on Adley was a better arm.

Heh, you’re more correct than you may know!

In 2014, Wieters had his career best 132 OPS +.  I don’t remember him having some career season but he played in only 29 games that season, so he was probably just the benefactor of a small sample size.

Rutschman now has a 133 OPS +.

It's not park, it's defensive systems.  bb-ref uses DRS, which has Rodriguez as a +3 fielder with a +3 positional adjustment.  Fangraphs uses the more accurate OAA and has him as slightly below average in defense+position. Adley ahead on Fangraphs 3.3 to 3.0, Rodriguez ahead on bb-ref 4.1 to 3.4.

Since Fangraphs transitioned to OAA for defense I have shifted to something like a 90-10 weighting of their version of WAR for non-pitchers.

On soft voting factors, I think the Orioles having come from so far out of nowhere, that will weigh heavier with any random AL Awards voter than if Julio + Pena make the playoffs and Adley doesn't because their teams ended up with 100-87-81 wins.

Elias Exec of Year, Hyde Manager of Year, or both?

It’s both..pretty easily.

Key stat shows how absurdly rapid Adley Rutschman's growth has been (fansided.com)

"...A rookie seeing pitches this well, this early in his career has to make Baltimore feel good about the direction they’re headed in, and the rate of improvement from the beginning of the season to now in picking up pitch location is even more useful. To jump from worse-than-average to near-best is no small feat for a first-year..."

Harder calculation to do using Fangraphs (at least to my knowledge), but per rWAR, there are only two rookie catchers since 1950 who played at least 60 games that have earned WAR at a rate of at least .047 per game. That’s about a 7.5 win pace over a full season.

The first is Carlton Fisk. The other is Adley Rutschman.
