Severino is absolutely not a better player than Chirinos.  And if you don't believe me, ask Jim Palmer.

I see Severino had 2 passed balls in 4 games with the Brewers.   Adley hasn’t yielded a passed ball in 43 starts at C, and Chirinos has 3 in 46 starts.   I was not the biggest Severino-basher around here, but it’s very obvious that his defense was not well regarded by Hyde based on things Hyde has said complimenting this year’s catchers.

Should the O's try to trade for him?  I know his results have been terrible, but he was a former very high pitching prospect.  Any interest if the cost is minimal?  I assume he's out of options.

He still has this year as an option since he has already been sent down this season.

Maybe not. Doesn't mean Hyde's, or Palmer's, prioritization of what makes a player valuable/ not valuable is correct. Isn't Chirinos the worst pitch framer in the league? I can tell. I've seen Chirinos give up on many strikes cause the pithcer missed his spot. And we know what he's hitting. At least Severino could swing it a bit. 

In my view, swapping Chirinos for Severino would be swapping out bad defense and bad offense for bad defense and okay offense.

      It looks like I misread your post as being about last offseason instead of the 2017-2018 offseason.  My mistake, but does that in any way affect my overall point - you know the part that I made explicit and you left out of your response - that all the old, reflexive Angelosian nonsense no longer automatically applies? I'm unclear on what you're driving at, especially if I have to go back to the 2017-2018 offseason when Peter Angelos might still have been giving input on running the team.  I think it's a stretch to try to draw parallels to those days, or even the John Angelos years, to David Rubenstein potential as an owner.

      Irsay stealing the Colts in a midnight sneak away is in my top five depressing B-More moments, as well as the dreaded We Are Family Pirates in the ‘79 series. Otherwise, it’s a good bad list.

      I forgot the name of the movie, but Jimmy Fallon was playing a BoSox superfan (tough role for an NY kid) and it was during the era of the ‘curse’ (right at the end of it actually) — a kid he was coaching asked, “What have the Red Sox ever done for you?” His character didn’t have an answer. But it made me think. The movie was out during the 14-years of losing seasons. I asked myself the same question about whether a lifetime of fandom was worth it. For me, outside of my family - 15 generations or more on the Eastern Shore - the O’s are also part of my DNA.  Win, lose, lose horribly, lose ugly, bad ownership, they just can’t shake me. All that said, I totally understand the frustration. It will take me a little longer to heal from this ugly exit to 2024.

      In the market and $$$ for SP = Mets, Cubs, BOS, WAS and SFG (depending on Snell opt-out).  That’s enough chairs when music stops for Burnes and Fried to cash in, and still ample for second tier Eovaldi, Manea, Kikuchi, Flaherty.

      1) I feel like we could’ve used some veteran star power leadership  2) Money 💰…if need be get a switch hitter  3) I’m standing by sign Burnes …I anticipate 6 or 7 years … Fail or Fall? I expect him to disappoint … In addition to Burnes I’d be looking to extend Eflin  4) I think we have a number of guys leaving … we almost certainly have a pick for Santander and Burnes if Elias fails. Spend some dam money  5) I think they’d approve $200 ish million …. But who know. I’ve come to believe his name should be bargain bin Mike. But I’m willing to wait and see since the new owners may push him to bulk up the team. If the front office is confident he will maybe you extend him now.    8.) I’m fine with McCann but perhaps we need a C3 with the way we regularly play both. 9) I’m fine with what we have if everyone is healthy this coming year and Felix is ready to roll from the get go. I believe he makes Cionel, Cano, Dominquez , Coulombe and Soto better. If you want an upgrade then I guess you can trade some as depth   10)I think he likes to take shots on lottery tickets… I don’t think it’s out of the box for him. Holliday depends if your moving Mullins along.
