Pathetic.

Well yeah, because it’s the day they don’t put their A lineup out there.

I mean, it’s about as much of a must win game as there can be in August due to the tiebreaker implications. No Vavra? Phillips and Nevin? C’mon.

I remember some Buck teams having awful Sunday records. Or was it just before Buck? It was awhile ago is all I remember.

The Friday game was the one to lose after the ridiculous travel from Boston yet they played one of their best games of the year. Then they come back the next 2 games and don't even show up.

Not getting Vavra into the lineup today was inexcusable.

Not to mention pitching to Arozarena.

Just terrible managing by Hyde

I have been meaning to do the numbers but since Hyde and Elias got here, I would love to see the record of the Orioles for day games on the last game of a series.

It seems like these “getaway” days are always brutal and that’s been the case the whole time they have been here.

That’s what happens when you have non-major league level players at the end of your bench. The b lineup is just terrible.

Swapping Stowers for Phillips and Henderson for Nevin would do wonders.

It almost feels like a team that we all expected to win about 67 games this year won't win every game down the stretch against some of the best teams in baseball.  Strange.

One thing to lose but to make horrible managing decisions and communicating approach at the plate etc has nothing to do with the talent level. And the Rays have been a bad baseball team since the AS break

Wait, are we back as a winning team that we start making threads called "pathetic" over getting beat 2 of 3 from a team that has typically beaten us like a drum over the last oh I don't know, last eight years?

We have never played well in Tampa.

But honestly, do you guys really think Elias really thinks this team is a contender? Today's lineup included a .706 OPS celan up hitter in Urias, Odor (.644 OPS) batting 5th, the end of the lineup with Nevin (.571) playing 1B and Phillips and his .488 OPS playing RF.

In the words of Cal Naughton Jr., "It's embarrassing."

This is why I'm enjoying the ride, but I'm not going to start getting too excited because it's clear Elias still is not putting a contending team lineup on the field every game.

I believe the O's went 1-18 vs. the Rays last year.  So on a weekend the O's were not at their best on the field or managing, the O's matched their win total from last year.  Not a good performance, but just shows how far they've come.

Out of rep, but kudos on the Cal Naughton Jr. reference.

That's the key. This team has come a long way but I think some people really think we're back, like really back. Like legitimate contender back.

We're legitimate contender back when Elias brings up prospects who improve his team. I'm not saying he's wrong by keeping Stowers and Henderson in the minors from a long term perspective, but don't start saying they are legitimate contenders.

I'll be happy if the team plays .500 the rest of the season or even finishes .500 or better. This is a team lost 110 games last year.

Now I'm going to enjoy the ride, but I'm not to start expecting the team to win series against Division opponents away.

I don't understand your last sentence.  The O's had the last playoff spot two days ago.  Are you saying they should just give up and feel it's Ok to fall behind the Red Sox again merely because Elias feels the team is not yet ready to compete?  It's asinine.  They should be putting the best lineup out there every day the rest of the season to try for that playoff spot.  Why not McKenna and Vavra?  Nevin and Phillips barely belong on the bench much less a starting lineup.  Would Earl Weaver, Johnny Oates or Buck Showalter allow that lineup out there?  The heavyweight teams are coming up, and the O's could easily fall back to last place with that slop of a lineup we saw today.  It's like the regime is so certain they'll be an excellent team next year they're not even going to try hard this year.  I can't remember the last time I've been this angry as an O's fan.

It has been the case for many Oriole teams over last 20 years ..

I agree with this whole heartedly!

I'm excited about the FUTURE. But the present (this season) I'm looking at as a bonus. Just too many holes on the roster to not be outmatched by the big boys.

Hopefully, next season (given Elias' recent comments and the talent that we have on the way) all this changes and we will no longer be "bringing a knife to a gun fight".

It wasn't worded well. I just mean Elias is not putting the best team that he can on the field and when he's not doing that in a game that could determine the last wildcard, it just goes to show that he's not all in this season.

He's enjoying the fact that this team is winning like no one thought they would so far. But it's clear when your bench including a light-hitting back up catcher, two light-hitting defensive outfield specialists, and 1B/3B back up who wasn't even good in AAA that he's not worried about this year.

I feel he believes he's working with house money this year.

Again, not saying he's wrong, but it's why I'm not all on the team as a contender. Doesn't mean they can't somehow squeeze in there, but I also would not be surprised with a decent amount of losing down the stretch considering their remaining schedule.
