There goes my prediction!

I think we are out on free agent pitchers.  Pivot to trade.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they signed Syndergaard or Manea. I also wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t and trade for someone else. Finally, I wouldn’t be shocked if the only other addition made to the team on a major league contract via signing or trade is a backup catcher, and we are sold on the idea that the improvement from a full year of Adley, Gunnar, and Rodriguez is enough to compete. I guess that I’m pessimistic, but I also won’t be angry if they don’t do anything and try to see what else they have this year, similar to what the Guardians did last year.

I could live with a front loaded 4 yr deal for Bassitt. 4yr/80mm

yr1 - $23mm
yr2 - $22mm
yr3 - $19mm
yr4 - $16mm

Even better if possible to negotiate a vesting option on the 4th yr for innings pitched the previous season.

Mmmmaybe, but I would have been okay with Walker, so... :noidea:

Pretty sure he's capable of earing pizza, watching youtube videos, and posting all at the same time.  I don't buy his alibi.

Don't give me too much credit, it took everything I had just pull off the eating + watching combo. Almost poked myself in the eye with the corner of the crust a few times...

I don't know about angry, but I would consider this off-season a failure if they don't do anything else to add to the team.

I think I will share in your disappointment. I think that they need to increase the talent level. I guess I’m just trying to talk myself into them doing nothing because I won’t believe that they will make a move until they actually do so. Statements like feathered up, lift off, and multi year offers have been made are meaningless until they actually do something, and right now I’m kind of sick of following the rumors.

I wonder if Elias is more interested in making it look like the O's are trying to sign players than in actually signing players.   "See, we aren't being cheap--we offered $300 M to Correa!"

There are people who may want to believe that.

I think they will do a trade but it may not happen this week.   Bassitt and Eovaldi are still possible but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I wondered at the deadline this year if Elias was being overly cautious and methodical, and I'm starting to wonder that again. Probably unfair, since there isn't much track record to go off of yet, but I do wonder. It would be gratifying to see him do something to support the idea of pushing for a playoff berth in 2023. I know it's only December, but things are moving fast and it just feels like the O's are getting left behind again. Hopefully he has things in motion that will bear fruit soon.

Thank goodness Taillon is out of play for the O's.  His previous health issues are way too concerning.  Bassitt, Syndergaard, and Senga are all more attractive to me anyway, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

The Orioles' need for better starting pitching is simply too plain for everybody not to see.  There's no place to hide Mike Elias...
