  1. 1. Are the Orioles done?

    • Yep - no more 40-man roster additions. They're rolling with who they have now.
    • Basically - maybe an O'Hearn type or two, but nothing serious.
    • Nah - I still think they'll sign a Wacha/Cueto/Greinke type starting pitcher.
    • Nah - big trade incoming that will reshape this off-season.

Roch has said in one of his posts not to long ago, maybe before xmas that the O's still want another SP. So there is some precedent for a move. I dont think their done.

The problem with this is the reality that you don't always get what you "want."  And, wanting something isn't a precedent to anything.   "Wanting" and "Getting" are two entirely different things, and I think that if Elias was brutally honest with us, I think he would admit that we didn't get a lot of what we might have wanted this offseason.

That being said, I don't think they are done either, but we need to prepare ourselves for possibly another addition that many posters on here don't really "want", similar to our reactions to the Frazier and O'Hearn additions.   I think most of us wanted some nicer "new toys" this offseason, and we're having to settle for what our parents decided they wanted to spend on us this Christmas.  (notice I didn't say, "what they could afford' - that was intentional).

I think they’re done, more or less, for now. Trades at mid-season make sense. Maybe they are ready to move Mateo and/or Urias then, and Westburg, Ortiz and/or Norby emerges as ready. Frazier and O’Hearn are stop gaps to buy time for Stowers, Cowser and the young infielders.

Adding ML depth to the rotation now? IDK. Gibson, Kremer, Bradish, T. Wells, G. Rodriguez, DL Hall, Voth, Watkins and Zimmermann should be just fine for now. You add Means in late July or August, hopefully. Elias will not want to block his young starters, unless it’s a true TOR, I think.

The additions are not sexy, no. They appear to be buying time for their prospects, while improving incrementally in 2023.

He already did.

Nomar Mazara, who he made a specific point of calling a platoon option for next year after we signed him to a minor league deal.

Could be Mazzara or Cordero or Stowers.   Could be someone else.  He certainly didn't say Mazzara was the guy.

Except they are blocking those prospects.

Everyone keeps saying, well the team isn’t ready yet because they need to see more. Ok, then see more.

But they aren’t. They are signing mediocre at best players who will definitely take at bats away from guys you want/need to see more of.

Unless teams lower their demands in trades, its not gonna happen.

Unless bottom tier free agent pitchers lower their demands, its not gonna happen.

I do think, at the break, they may acquire someone that has another year left on their deal. They have proven, imo, that they do not feel they are true contenders at the moment.

Agree, it makes no sense. Infuriatingly risk adverse.

I agree that it could be any of those guys (or O'Hearn), my point was simply that there is no real reason to think that a significant position player acquisition like Kepler is going to occur at this this point because he has already acquired guys that apparently are good enough in his mind (they aren't, obviously).

You can read his mind now?  Pretty good.
