If you could put one Orioles Hall of Famer (National Baseball Hall of Fame, not the Orioles Hall of Fame) on the 2023 team, who would it be?

Brooks Robinson 3B

Frank Robinson RF

Jim Palmer SP

Eddie Murray 1B

Earl Weaver M

For arguments sake, we're going to assume each of these guys is in their prime.

I wonder how Palmer's game would play in 2020s style baseball.   He was not overpowering like guys like Carlton and Ryan in that era were.   He benefited from great defense.   Of course, only having to go 6 innings a game he could probably go more max effort than he did.

Vintage Eddie would be very tempting.

I voted Palmer but I guess we could look up the best season of each and see who would make the biggest difference statistically.   In that case, it's probably not Palmer, I'm guessing.

Cal Ripken had an 11.5 RWAR season in 1991.   That seems to be by far the best over the others by at least 2 WAR.    Replacing Mateo with Ripken is probably an 8.5 WAR difference if not more.    Palmer best RWAR year was about 8.4.     So, according to RWAR, unless Palmer is replaceing a 0 RWAR pitcher or worse, I'd have to say peak Ripken is more valuable.

It's Palmer for me, based on the team make-up and needs. A front line SP would put this team into playoff contention.

If you are actually getting 323 innings out of Palmer I'd say that would make a larger difference than Ripken.

But 230 innings of Palmer?

To be clear I wasn't questioning whether he could make it in today's game.   Just not sure he would be multiple-Cy Youngs good in this era.

Brooks and Frank were before my time. Even though we need pitching I'd go with Frank just to be able to see him play.

I just think with the talent of this club it’s Palmer for me. Biggest need the team has. 
 

Having Eddie or Frank in the middle of Adley and Gunnar would be damn fun though.

Any would be great.  With the IF guys we have you kinda rule out Cal and Brooks.  Palmer seems like the answer with our current rotation.  Not that Mountcastle and Hays couldn't be upgraded with Eddie and Frank.

Palmer, Murray or Frank, based on need. If you go with any of the hitters, break the news about the wall as gently as you can.

I think Eddie might make the biggest difference. Having three switch-hitters in the middle of the lineup most days would rival the Singleton/Murray combination that created a lot of problems for opposing teams and managers.
