So the only reason there was anything being announced at all was because of the Orioles donating fan generated revenue so Angelos acting like he was being accosted at mass was just his play at PR management .. which he failed.

John Angelos will probably just say that he is doing everything possible to bring a championship to Baltimore and that the Orioles financial information is publicly available.  Maybe put something in there about the "large sums of money" he has invested in the O's.

mean, $5 million? Chris Davis alone has donated more to this city, and he didn't put out a save-the-date about it and make all these beat reporters come out on a holiday.

Did he?   I’m aware of a $3 mm donation he made.  He may have made others, but then again, the O’s have too.  Overall I think the O’s do a good job with regard to being active in the community.

I don’t have a problem with holding a press conference about this.  It gives the College Bound organization some publicity.  There were some aspects of this besides the cash donation worth discussing.   I’m sure the O’s did it for PR purposes, but that’s fine.

It's fine if you don't flip out like a weirdo in front of the mayor and totally hijack the spotlight when it should be on the charity.

This is where i am.  The press conference was maybe a bit much, tho.  Clearly, John expected to be fawned over for the donation and wanted to pontificate on the need for it otherwise the response to Dan's question would have just been, "We'll respond to ballclub issues at another time."  But in true Angelossi fashion, if there is a turd within walking distance, they step in it and sometimes circle around again for a second trod.

Hopefully Buster can finally be useful for once and put some pressure on this to occur. Haven’t really seen it anywhere else, except Dan Connolly.

It will be interesting to see if Baltimore media will let Angelos sweep his statement that he will show the team's financials next week under the rug.  I think there is no way that Angelos shows his financials as they will reveal how much money he is siphoning off the team.  I'm ready to eat massive crow if John Angelos "opens the books".

...but at the end of the day all anyone remembers about the press conference is the John Angelos petulant billionaire rant. If anything I'd say he completely hijacked the spotlight and selfishly stole the needed attention away from the College Bound organization. That's 100% on him.

If John wants to open the books then I give him permission to use the following. Data for 2022 not yet available:

ME's changes are increasing Operating Costs, Payroll + Expenses is about $15-20 M above Salaries (2019 outlier). If we assume Revenue of $255 M, Operating Cost of $105 M and Payroll+ about $20 M above salaries, that leaves about $130 M for Salaries plus Operating Income (profit). What OI (profit) does John consider acceptable for a $1.375 B franchise?????

Year Revenue Salaries Payroll + Expenses Revenue - Expenses Operating Income Operating Cost

2014 245 110 122 123 31.4 91.6
2015 239 118.9 137 102 8.8 93.2
2016 253 147.7 162 91 -2.1 93.1
2017 252 164.3 183 69 -26 95
2018 251 143 161 90 -6.5 96.5
2019 256 61.1 103 153 57 96
2020 115 23.9 43 72 -23 95
2021 251 45.7 66 185 83

2021 might not have been a great year for the O's on the field, but it was a great year for John Angelos at the bank.

If I remember right I ran it at the same time with 2022 included and also came up with OI (profit) of ~$80.  Remember OI should go up substantially in 2023 with $30m from Disney and increased attendance.  Funny, either Elias or JA was quoted that he expected player salaries to increase relative to attendance-no mention increased revenue from media!!

The new media deal increased MLB revenue in 2022 so I expect the O's revenue to rise in 2022 somewhat plus there was the attendance increase. With the low payroll in 2022 I think you are correct that OI (profit) will likely be in that range. I expect some enterprising accountant will find a way to associate the one-time Disney money with MASN versus the MLB franchise.

Thanks, the other thing I would like to see is itemized salaries-specifically what Angelos pays himself as CEO.
