There was a debate the other day on Loud Outs about when it's an insurance run.  I just figure anything added on to a lead during the 8th or 9th, as an away team, fits the definition.  Right?

I'd say it has to be a relatively close game.   Going from 8 runs up to 9 runs up doesn't feel insurance-y to me.

    • What an excellent positive post. I am feeling good too, and Wells in the pen will help,  I'm even more impressed this year with Coulombe. I didn't imagine Irvin's improvement and Westburg is so solid and consistent. All we really need is the 2023 version of Bautista, and Mullins to start hitting.
    • No player is untouchable. I don’t care if it’s Holliday, Adley, Gunnar, Basallo or Mayo. That said, the player(s) that you would have to get back in return to move any of those guys are also not being traded, so for me, it’s a worthless conversation to have. The Os have plenty of trade pieces that could get back what they need without trading the elite guys.
    • I believe if Mayo comes up, he'd get closer to the Holliday treatment than the Kjerstad treatment. Because I believe they're willing to sit Urias/Mateo in ways they aren't currently willing to sit Mullins/Santander/Mountcastle/O'Hearn. Though I guess this depends on the question of Mayo's 3b defense.
    • He isn't rotting and hasn't been in AAA for an inordinate amount of time.
    • Unless it actually was load management, aren't we winning enough to allow Grayson to have a bit of a rehab start?  Also we have an off day on Thursday, so we could just skip Kremer's turn.  The 15 day IL brings in more factors than the 10 day IL that was around for a few seasons.
    • Except no one else is hitting near as badly in losses especially when you consider how good he is hitting overall.  Anyhow, just an anomaly that I wish I could figure out ahead of time for the purpose of betting.
    • Cole Ragans is a TJ x 2 guy May 2019 and March 2018, which I believe for some Clubs would play bigger than others how to assess him. Robert Stephenson was June 2nd last year...here's how MLB trade rumors beheld him: Here in 2023, he began the season on the injured list due to elbow inflammation but was able to return in the middle of April.  He’s since made 18 appearances but has a 5.14 ERA in those. He’s still getting punchouts at a similar rate but his control seems to have fallen off this year. He struck out 26.8% of opponents from 2019 to 2022 and walked 7.9% but those figures are 27.9% and 13.1% this year. That’s a small sample size but Stephenson has shown himself to be fairly inconsistent in his career, with notable swings in his effectiveness. Nonetheless, the Rays will take a shot on helping him harness his stuff. Given their track record of helping flawed pitchers get the best of their arsenals, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see Stephenson get back on track in Tampa.
