I think it's mostly your last point. Their pitch counts don't look all that different from June.

I'm giving Kyle Gibson's next start to John Means. This is what, four of his last five starts where Gibson has been beaten up? He's the weak link in the rotation now. Even Irvin has been outpitching him the last few weeks. 

 

As of this post edit, in August he's thrown 28 1/3 innings and surrendered 26 Earned Runs for a 8.26 August ERA. For a guy that has a history of falling apart in the second half of the season, outside of owning the Jays, he's not throwing well right now and is a concern going forward. The ChiSox are a dumpster fire.. giving up 7 Earned Runs to them in three innings is not good.

Hard to get outs when you throw your 92 mph FB in the middle of the plate.

He’s one start removed from throwing 8 IP.  The O’s won’t pull him from the rotation at this point.

I don't know if I'm suggesting that Meansy replace him in the rotation but if there's one guy in the starting six right now who the O's can skip, it's Gibson. Outside of the start against the Jays last week, he has not pitched very well for weeks now. The dude has a history of collapsing in the second of half, if at 35 he needs some added rest, give it to him. Means is not being brought back to pitch out of the pen. Give him Gibson's next start and go from there.

Gibson's job is to eat innings. Failing to go five innings against these dreadful White Sox is not good.

Yeah.. not awesome. He's been the weakest link in their rotation for the last two months. He's eating innings, that's great and all but if he can't give you five against the White Sox without giving up 7... give him rest or whatever he needs. They have options with Means and could even dip into Wells if they had to do that, even though it's already been decided that he's coming back to pitch out of the pen.

Gibson and Voth need to be off the team now. This is ridiculous. Even his outing against the Jays he was shaky early and was fortunate to get past the 4th when he settled down.

Voth DFA, bring up Wells. Means up on Friday. I don't know what to do with Gibson. Maybe do like these other teams are doing and waive him now to save money?

Wells ran out of gas coming out of the break and was sent down to recalibrate working out of the pen. When he returns, he probably slots into the high leverage role that was Cano's prior to the Felix injury. Depending on the situation, Wells probably gets some save opportunities.

It was the right move. He was struggling before they sent him to Bowie (prior to him being at Norfolk now).

Gibson has to improve the last month or he’s at risk of being left off the playoff roster with Wells and Means lurking.
