Grayson Rodriguez officially gets the call, Bazardo Optioned

Probably want to see what you have in Grayson before the trade deadline?  Unless the plan is to pitch him out of the bullpen (can't imagine that).

Not going to be a very meaningful sample size, but say he gets two starts and looks terrible, maybe that encourages Elias to make more of an effort to land an impact starter at the deadline.

If Rodriguez is successful and sticks, do you go with a 6-man rotation through the end of the season to save arms/limit innings?

I think they'd be more likely to just juggle starts/occasionally run a guy out of the pen for a week or two. A 6-man rotation isn't really proven to help guys long-term, and it would tax our already overused pen.

Yes, that could be a possibility for a limited period of time with the idea of managing innings, but they will have to option or trade a position player in order to bring up another bullpen arm.

He was a little better but he got rattled by the dropped catch at the wall by Hicks. Walks kill you in any level of baseball, especially against good teams in the Major Leagues.

I’m less encouraged by this start, not because of the score right now but because GrayRod didn’t look like much has changed in terms of pitching through real adversity. Yeah, Hicks probably should have caught that ball but as Ben mentioned, pitch like the bases are empty there and GrayRod looked to have lost his focus. That’s the difference in this game.

Completely disagree with everything said here. He looked fine. He had thrown 3 innings in about 2 weeks. He ran out of gas and shouldn’t have faced the second hitter in the inning.  Once someone got on, he should have been pulled.

Him running out of gas was completely predictable.

He threw a ton of first pitch strikes and the secondary pitches looked better.

Defense really let him down tonight too.

Yeah you can’t give away free outs to good teams.  A few missed plays and the lineup doesn’t roll over as much.  Frazier should have made play on Freeman grounder earlier in game then Hicks should have caught that one as well.

i agree, he looked great for 5 innings and then got tired, stat line doesn't reflect how he looked. Came out firing gas! Also i think they went too much off speed after first couple innings.

Every inning Frazier plays defensively is a disservice to the pitching staff.
