Which players/prospects would you be okay with trading?

If you are only willing to give up what you don't really want, you aren't going to get anything you want in return.

Unless the reason you don't want a player is because you have more players than you have spots available.

That's right.

I don't know about that.  I say Norby, Stowers and Prieto for starters.  It's not because I don't want them.  I like them all, but they all also seem to have multiple players and prospects blocking them so they have value to other teams and to us in a trade.

From the big club, I'm ok with moving Mateo, Urias, Mountcastle, and McKenna even though with the injuries in CF McKenna has become more valuable. I actually may take a look at Mateo out there if they want to keep him on the team.

For Prospects, the guys that have good value that I'm ok to move in the right deal are:

Willems
Norby
Stowers
Fabian
Wagner
Prieto
Hall
Beavers
Anyone from 17 and below on the Prospect Power Rankings

Guys I'd move but only for an absolute impact player with some retainability (not a half year rental)
Westburg
Cowser
Kjerstad
Ortiz
Povich

Untouchable for me:
Holliday
Mayo
Basallo

Well, that's fair.  And I know I'm going to get flak for it because Norby Nation exists on the OH but I really am not interested in him as a prospect, squarely because of Henderson, Holliday, Westburg, and Ortiz.  In other words, he's blocked and probably has more value in a trade.

So you're correct but I'm also being a bit callous when I say that a guy like Norby is someone I don't want.  Not necessarily his fault, it's just that there's a lot of competition and he's on the outside looking in.

Great breakdown... perhaps I'll rephrase the topic title after comments to that point.

This is almost exactly where I stand with leaning towards putting Kjerstad in untouchable as well.  But I'm very high on Kjerstad and think he's going to be a 35+ HR hitter for us.

Baumann.

I mean, this thread is going to be a list of players most of us don't like and want to see gone, so while I'm here I'll agree on Mateo, Mountcastle and Stowers.  I'll agree on Prieto because we've already got a lot of middle infielders.   Expect Frazier to be mentioned a lot.

Good point guys... re-titled the topic.  Thanks.

Only Kjerstad's below average running and defense keeps him off the list for me for now. But he's still not a guy I'm giving up for a rental or a reliever.

Good list, but Holliday is absolutely in the untouchable group.

    • You always need shuttle guys. Ideally, I would think they’d like to have 2-3 spots they can interchange between 5-6 guys. That allows them to maybe get some younger arms in there, like McDermott and the others we mentioned already.  Bautista, if he is back to his old form, Seranthony, Cano, Soto (who I think may just surprise some people), while Cionel and Akin are not sure things. Either could be moved. They should make some moves there, IMO. Cionel has not really improved as much as I had hoped. Akin has had a very good year. Are they ARB eligible this year?
    • You’re the one who threw Ripken into the discussion.  And I don’t think anyone is necessarily saying that Gunnar will be as good as Ripken.  Cal is 3rd all time in Total Zone Runs for a SS.  But, Cal also proves that you don’t judge a SS solely on how many errors they make.  The years that Cal made 26, 25 and 25 errors, he was +11, +23, +O Rtot.  And  Gunnar is playing a solid SS now by the advanced metrics.
    • Coby's problem is not the SSS at bats, but rather his sample size on defense, both minors and majors. He has no position at this point in his career. He's a DH and not in the lineup today because AS is Dhing. Eloy is on the bench as well. Both are PH options so stay ready.
    • I do not know if there were extenuating circumstances or not.  Could be it's a quieter locker room without the rest of the guys, which would make sense in a concussion situation.  So, maybe I did rush to an unfair conclusion here.  At the time, I felt like it more of a "spring training look" when the starters all leave the field after they're done playing.....so yes, there could be other very reasonable explanations. I'll stand corrected, and retract my conclusion.
    • Message to Coby.....you better learn how to use a glove.
    • Totally agree.  And at no point will some people be able to admit that the shiny, new rookie may be overmatched, and putting him just because hangouters want him in there may not be the best move for team chemistry or results  People need to earn their way when given a chance, and with where we are in the standings, leashes are going to be short.  We're not the White Sox who can afford to play anyone they want because it doesn't matter.
