To answer my own question, no, I think I'd let Irvin continue until he gave up a baserunner.

They are building his pitch count up, I'd prefer him to Fuji, but not much I can do to change that.

Of course he does.  I've never claimed that his lack of hitting was due to not caring or not trying or whatever.  For whatever reason he just can't do it.  He's clearly frustrated, and I certainly would be too.  He's a great talent and even if he could just consistently OPS .700ish, I'd be happy.  His defense and baserunning ability is good enough to carry a weak bat.  But there is no defense or baserunning ability good enough to carry a bat as terrible as he's been lately IMO.  

I know it reads as tho I was saying you didn't recognize that, but I wasn't.  Just wanted to remark about his reaction, and your post gave me the chance.

I disagree it didn’t travel far but that is because it cool air in Oakland.  You hit that in Baltimore in this time of year in heat it travels lot farther.

60's in this last start, 75 this start, it's a process. He hadn't thrown more than 41 pitches in over a month before his last start.
