Rays series

The Orioles did a lot of little things last night that cost them the game. In a one run game, the little things matter…whether it be Hicks hesitating, Adley’s at bat with a runner on third and less than 2 outs, the grounder to Westburg (tough play)..but Tampa also missed that pop up bunt and that could have been costly.

The ump was very inconsistent all night and that didn’t help although that obviously effected both sides.

Hyde needs to sit AR or move him down the order. If he's back in the same spot tomorrow, that tells me that Hyde is tone deaf. A big part of the job of a manager is to shake things up when the team is slumping.

The manager's job is to be a steady hand that doesn't do illogical, knee-jerk things that will negatively impact their odds of winning because a tough loss got everyone emotional and upset. Sitting one of your best players because he's in a 6-game microslump would be a big check in the "doesn't know what he's doing" column, in my book.

Both teams are really having a great year with both getting close or above 100 wins. Orioles playing really good ball all year. The Rays still winning after losing four starters and arguably their best position player, perhaps forever. Both really nice stories but I am sure the networks would rather have the Red Sox or Yankees in the playoffs.

Last weekend I saw a promo for the Thursday FOX Baseball Night in America where the tone was like:

Bombastic voice - YANKEES at RED SOX

Quiet voice - or Rays at Orioles.

Be interesting to see how much rope Flaherty gets.     Flaherty career has Gibson 23-3 on postseason innings so despite the youth he brings more big game experience.     You can't predict baseball.

Big picture as Elias hasn't yet done a big Bats for Arms trade, the job for the best Orioles is to handle Zach Eflin.

People say stuff like this a lot, about what other contenders wouldn't dare to do, and it's almost always wrong. Every player that's currently getting significant starts for the Orioles would also be getting starts on several of the other contenders. In fact, one of the strengths of this year's team has been the ability to plug every hole with fairly solid performance, instead of suffering the sort of black holes that many teams do face. And if we were rolling out a more severe weak spot or two in the lineup, that's pretty normal even on contending teams.

As for only two players from the farm system making a difference, how do you define making a difference? Do you mean making a difference in the last five days? Have Rodriguez and Bradish been making a difference lately? Has Bautista made a difference this year?

Agree..and that guy who was not even on our ML roster did pretty good pitching for another team the other night lol

Could be purely anecdotal, but it feels like our OFs have been deaked a handful of times this year by the baserunning into third. It's happened to Mullins 2 to 3 times and again to Hicks last night. Hate it.

Could not agree more.

Santander was about 2 inches from a couple of home runs. Some of his foul balls were strait back off the top of the barrel. His timing was good but he was a little too much underneath them.

and there's no denying how good the Rays pitching was. There were some breaking balls that boggled my mind
